The losing is one thing. Losing a weekly life preserver that gets me from one week to the other is something entirely different.

Love the column and immensely respect and enjoy the dude who wrote it. Hiko will stay around and write other stuff, but the Browns and his own priorities changing have rendered this the last "Browns Outsider":

This hurts more than a full season of Browns losses, but....thanks for a fantasic six years. I can honestly say I've enjoyed every column. But as a parent myself I can respect your decision. I'll still be looking forward to your contributions even though they'll be less regular.

Crap. "Browns Outsider" has become part of the Browns Experience for me--the good part. Will be missed immensely.

Thanks for the kind words, gents.

This is the first Monday in forever where I didn't read one Browns related article and didn't listen to one second of sports talk radio. Just working and listening to music and it's like freakin' heaven.

The one article I looked forward to reading more than any other, Hiko. Definitely sad to see it go. Best wishes with the new child and your health. :salute:

I will miss your weekly takes on everything, but I am not surprised given your comments on here lately. In retrospect, we should've seen this coming a mile away.

Take care of yourself, and I hope the Haslem Browns rekindle your fire to the point you CAN'T NOT write about the team.

.. . And don't be a stranger here. Even if it's just the occasional snarky comment.

I've said it before: I love Lars, but Chris is king. I've hit 50, and you've expressed my view. I had gone through years of wondering why the heck I let myself get so discouraged after a Browns loss. I left that behind- Sunday, I listened to the first quarter. I moved on. I was later surprised that although they lost, they actually kicked enough FGs to take the lead. Oh well, if they one day start winning games, I will figure out a way to get the video. Sunday is mine, and depressing hangovers wear me out. I think my decision to distance myself a little came early in the expansion era- a Browns guy was busted with drugs in a Steelers' vehicle. If I care more about the Browns than those losers do, what kind of chump does that make me?

Favorite Chris piece was the one where he warned the guy not to get the hot sauce on his fingers (would affect sensitive areas), and later he heard the scream from the bathroom- hahaaa

bwah!

Lightweights...

Wait till you hit 62 and they still haven't won...

Good choice!

I've been saying for years people are too invested in sports for no reward save some trash talk or fleeting memories of events...as if seeing them win in '64 really means anything to me now...

You're doing what I did 20 + yrs ago....circling the wagons

I hope I didn't overstate my medical issues. I will apparently be fine so long as I stop drinking, smoking, and eating red meat and cheese. You know, everything that makes life worth living.

Just gotta find new addictions now.

No plans to stop posting here, just plan on spending a lot less time paying attention to the Browns of Cleveland (and sports in general).

Right.

I think it's selfish too. I don't read newspapers. I've bought one in the last two years and that was for the Madison Volleyball picture and article from sectional finals.

I do not read Pluto or any of the PD people. Never. I follow Dennis Manoloff on twitter but don't read his articles either.

This is a blow.

Fuck his health and well being. What about our health and well being? Selfish prick.

;-) ;)

Man, what a bummer.

You can tell how irked I was after the Browns debaucle...it took me this long to read Chris's article; something I almost always do immediately.

But I can certainly understand it; having made that very tough decision myself a little over a year ago.

I'm just saying another little prayer of thanks to the Great Spaghetti Monster that the minor drugs I'm on for BP and cholesterol haven't force me to stop drinking (yet).

Take care of yourself, as well as your beautiful wife and your great kids...and hopefully Clarissa and I will catch up with you all again soon (and maybe the NEXT time you and I get together, one of our women WON'T end up in the hospital). ::doh::

Very sorry to see this end.

I also looked forward to reading the realism and humor you found in watching Browns games. This game was a partcularly bad one, and I felt much the same as you did.

Living in NJ, maybe a solution will come losing your power for 5 days and having plenty of time for conversation with the wife and kids.
:thud:

Rest, recharge the batteries and maybe Haslam will make some moves we'll all be proud of.

Change can happen, I mean Swerb has Dawson up as the Browns poster boy and he hasnt missed a FG yet this year, so...

Chris, do what you got to do. Try learning to cook, lots of healthy food can taste dynamic, and it'll give you something to do.

We'll miss your work for sure. But there's bigger fish to you to fry, or in this case, grille with sauteed vegetables.
