I think it's that time again, gentlemen.

The strat game has moved to Strat-O-Matic.com. The interface is improved IMO, but the game runs the same. Also, it's only $15 for a team now.

We will use a DH because we're not a bunch of fucking communists. We've played at $60 and $80 caps, so when you sign up, state you cap preference between $100/$140/$200.

When I grow up I hope I'm half as insightful.

Actually, yeah. Having another kid. Found out some time ago that, due to a marker on the ultrasound, there was about a 45% chance of a chromosomal abnormality. Which when the doc says that what you hear is "your baby will have Downs Syndrome or something worse.". Tests are ongoing but we found out 2 days ago (after a very anxious couple of weeks and a very painful biopsy) that the most likely problems have been ruled out and there is now a much greater probability that everything is fine.

A few new things in strat recently:

1. You can now select any cap you want. Not limited to pre determined 60/80/100/140/200.

2. They announced ATG VII to be released soon, rumor has it within a week or two. 200 new cards added to the deck.

3. At that time they will be adding a shuffle feature that randomly selects 1,000 cards for your league. As far as I can tell it's around 20-25% of available cards. Each league drafts 600 cards. Smaller player pool probably adds to difficulty. I'm not sure how that works yet but sounds interesting.

I say we give it a week or two, then set a time to form a public league that we can enter and then wait for a bunch of pushovers to fill it up.

Me too. I always played APBA. I'd heard of Strat, but never played until Swerb formed that league a few years back.

What I'll do is form a public league sometime Sat Jan12th. Leagues aren't filling up too fast so we all should be able to enter a team. Then we'll wait for other guys to fill out the league. Once everyone here is in ill post a thread on the strat boards to move it along. Forming the league on a Saturday will hopefully give us the most time to tweak our teams and talk shit before the season starts.

Prices for credits go up slightly next week.

Also, if you have a credit, you can start a team at any time between now and then so that its an easy click to enter the team later without scrambling.

Actually, I told her that in many places the idea, concept and use of stats is extremely beneficial and nearly a requirement. However, I do not agree that baseball is that sort of place. You see, what I learned is stats are very good tools of prediction when the things they are predicting have a high level of consistency from one case to the next. Or when the things they are predicting do not have other variables that effect the outcome. So when you use predictive stats in baseball, you are predicting what Player Y is likely to do in Year X when facing pitcher A.....Z. Issue is, there are thousands of things that happen with Player Y, and Year X is more than just Year X-1 repeated and pitcher A....Z are all influenced by another thousand variables.

I also believe you do breath out of habit, but it is still a necessity. When is the last time you thought, oh shit, time to take a breath! What I believe is something can be very useful in some, and even most, cases. That does not make it useful in all cases.
