First to worst record?

Unread postby OldDawg » Tue Aug 21, 2012 3:38 pm

The Tribe is knocking on last place in the Division.
Just wondering what the record for the quickest descent (post all-star break) from first to worst is in terms of number of games.
It seems like just yesterday, the Tribe was in 1st place. Does anyone know the last date that the Tribe was actually in first this year and what their record was at the time?

Ha! I would go for buzy over lazy, but its only semantics at this point.
Maybe when I get a chunk of time I will look into it.

OK. Here goes.
MLB AL Central Standings on June 23. Last time Tribe in first
Cleveland 37-33 .529
Chi Sox.. 37-34 .521 0.5
Detroit....34-37 .479 3.5
KC........ 31-38 .449 5.5
Minny.... 28-42 .400 9.0

CURRENT AL CENTRAL STANDINGS
Chi Sox.. 66-55 .545
Detroit.....64-57 .529 2.0
KC......... 54-67 .446 12
Cleveland 54-68 .443 12.5
Minny..... 51-70 .421 15

Records during the stretch between those dates:
Detroit....30-20 .600
Chi Sox. 29-21 .580
KC........ 23-29 .442
Minny.... 23-28 .451
Cleveland 17-35 .327

They could complete the first to worst in 55 games.
It certainly seemed a lot quicker than that. I thought they were in first place for some time in early July.

So shove it, Dnthateonthepronk.

I am gonna assume that the ChiSox finish their W off with the Tigres, and that the Twinkies finish off their W against the Tribe. If these games hold out...

The Tribe went from first place after 70 games to last place after 141 games. It took 71 games and 79 calendar days to go from first to worst. It woulda been quicker, but the Twins sucked at a high degree as well.

Has there ever been a team to go from 1st to LAST faster than he 2012 Indians?

The last time the Indians we're in 1st place was in Houston. I guess their shittyness rubbed off on the Tribe too

What would Tribe fans rather see?

-The Eric Wedge era, start off like complete shit, and be out of contention by the Kentucky Derby, yet string together enough meaningless wins in August and September to give fans false hope for next season.
OR
-The Manny Acta era, Start off hot to give your fans false hope for the current season, yet fall off into total oblivion shortly after the All Star break.

You think that is bad, Vinny Rottino is batting fifth, followed by LaPorta, Neal, and Marson.

Tribe's best hope is me taking TX in the MLB Pick 30 tonight. That's a sizable advantage for the Indians.
