I posted it on Twitter yesterday but the year Cody Allen is having is ridiculous and would be the talk of the town if the Indians collapse and general malaise wasn't the talk of the town.

How come no one is talking about the scouts that drafted the kid in the 23rd round last summer and have watched him dominate at every level since then, including most of the time at the major league level this year?

He's a great story and he's been tremendous. Between 93-96mph with movement. Kid's been terrific two years after TJ surgery.

I certainly could see him in Vinnie's role next year, with Vinnie as the closer. Of course, I doubt we will have much need of a closer next year.

He definitely has been a bright spot, and knowing he was possibly coming and got here, as really helped my fantasy team.

I think it's because once he's contract is up, he'll just go to the big market teams.

I do know if he was a miserable bust you'd probably be more likely to discuss his year.

Instead you'll minimize the importance and pretend you're ignorant to the fact that if he can be Pestano and make Pestano Perez then his value goes beyond 7th set up guy.

You should occasionally feign objectivity.

I am plenty objective. Cody Allen is having a remarkable season. That is great. The back end of our bullpen is great. Fantastic.

That's correct. Either that a few more big hits on the elite free agent market should do it.

Any guesses on which is more likely?

Is what it is. Guys like Allen, being right and/or lucky on a few prospects, that's all you got. Might as well celebrate (or at least acknowledge) one who actually made it and looks really good.

Plenty of time to be miserable and commiserate about LaPorta, et al.

Guy like Allen is drafted and throwing 91-91 after TJ surgery, matures, develops into legit mid 90's guy, maybe takes over Pestano who takes over Perez who becomes a piece in a deal for a more necessary piece.... gonna have to be that way or it's death.

I've mentioned Cody Allen in six different threads according to the search feature on this website.

But the reasons nobody is talking about him (much) are:

1. Nobody feels like saying anything positive about the Indians right now
2. His terrific individual performance is overwelmed by the sheer magnitude of the team suck
3. He only pitches an inning at a time, two or three times a week so his impact on winning or losing is limited
4. We've seen rookies come up, start out hot, and then fizzle

That being said, I think this kid is going to be a fixture at the back end of the BP for years. Like I said in another thread, the scout who recommended him should get a nice bonus.

What we really need, though, is several more Cody Allens, only starting pitchers and position players. Unfortunately, blind squirrels don't find nuts every day.

I had to get it in there while he was still effective. More impactful that way and an easier argument for me.
