Mayweather laying it down on Michigan

Apparently laid down 3 mill total (amongst various different sportsbooks) on Michigan taking 14. Bama is superior, but they are also a "grind it out" fb team who won't usually go for style points. Should be interesting.

My take:

Denard Robinson is a playmaker. He is one hell of a running QB, to deny that is stupid. He will probably break away and make a big play at some point. I think he accounts for 1-2 TDs, so I'll call it 10 points even with 'Bama keying on him; it is a can't stop him can only hope to contain him thing. They literally have absolutely NOTHING else. Do you think Roy Roundtree will get open against 'Bama? Robinson cannot throw the ball, so 'Bama can play press the entire game. Just saw an interesting stat that Robinson only hit 38% of his passes over 15 yards last year. Bama can pretty much ignore anything past the sticks.

scUM doesn't have the horses to play against 'Bama's DL, so I am guessing that even as a grind it out team, they will still put up plenty of points. scUM's woes in the secondary only complicate things. I think 30-10 is about the best scUM can hope for. I could see scUM getting shut out and I could definitely see 'Bama scoring more.

I am guessing this is another B1G black eye.

I'm with Mayweather on this game. I think Michigan acquits themselves just fine against a rebuilding Bama defense.

I'll take the 14 if I'm forced to bet it.

Michigan is the most over-ranked team of the pre-season. (Which admittedly doesn't mean much)

Look, they beat two ranked teams last year, like #'s 17 & 22. They got outgained big-time in the bowl game.

And Denard Robinson was worse passing the ball last year, than the previous year. One thing is for certain - Saban ain't letting Denard beat him on the ground.

Early in the season I love a premier offensive line like Bama's, brings some levity to the goofiness of week one.

Finally, the SEC dominates the big 10 because of what they do up front - on both sides of the ball. No shame in Michigan being outclassed here, they just are.

All this being said, Bama can dominate the game and still not cover, but no way in holy hell I'm taking Michigan here.

I was expecting a 10-point Michigan loss. I really didn't expect Bama to be able to shred the Wolverines on the ground as badly as they did. Those Bama backs are bad ass...and obviously, so's their O-Line.

Thought about that last night, it's not too often a legit Hypeman candidate can take himself out of the running in week 1, but he might have. Not only does he need about 5-6 straight weeks of great numbers now but michigan needs to go without losing for awhile to help DR's chances.

I don't disagree. But in college, Denard Robinson can beat a hell of a lot of teams all by himself. If I was his coach I'd use hm the same way. I'd want him to touch the ball on every play.

That's good enough the majority of the time. Unfortunately for DR, sometimes he has to play Alabama.

He's the perfect guy to rum amok vs. teams that can't play. Christ, there's 3 or 4 of these guys in the lesser conferences every year.

But you don't hang with the big boys with half an offense, especially if it's 2012, and the half you have ain't the forward pass.

Good Christ how many full game films was Saban able to peruse of the opposting QB not being able to throw the ball? All the time in the world to prepare for a non-passing team - Saban has had tougher assignments.

Gameplanning for Robinson has to be pretty simple. Take away the QB option on the read option, scUM doesn't have a RB to take the pitch, and don't sleep on the QB draw. You can almost literally ignore everything else. I knew they were going to crushed in this game. scUM is just lucky that Saban (inexplicably) decided to make McCaron throw the ball. Imagine how bad it would've been if they would've just kept running it.

He cannot throw the ball, and they don't have any playmakers on the outside. Sad thing for scUM is that they didn't get any in their 2012 class and they don't have one yet in 2013, although they do lead for Laquan Treadwell.

BTW, did any of you see the ass raping that their #1 recruit... 5* QB Shane Morris took at the hands of St. Ignatius this week? 9-22 for 104 yards 0 TDs and 2 Ints! Nice work! He is a combine warrior. Glad he is going to scUM, he is "Zwicktastic."

Ok, so back to the topic - Is what you wrote above enough to be in consideration for the Heisman? My answer is "I hope not." Not because he plays for Michigan, but because he's the UF version of Percy Harvin in the shotgun. If he is "the outstanding college football player" he should also be the best at his position, no?

The last zone read can't really throw the ball guy to be in consideration was Vince Young (unless you count Tebow ) And VY won the National Championship and could throw like Andrew Luck compared to DR.

The other thing to be considered with the hypeman talk (and DR) is that the trend of college ball does matter and comes into play big time. The last 11 trophy winners have consisted of 10 QBs, college football has been very much about throwing the ball during that time, hypeman trophies going to said position is no coincidence.

DR could probably run for 1800 yards this season and still not be one of the favorites if he can't get it done with his arm.
