It would be a very "Indians" thing to do to lose to Scherzer last night, look like you're going to go 5 back and effectively put yourself out of the race, but then beat Verlander the next night and bring everyone back on board.

I'm optimistic, for whatever reason.

Agree with the optimism for this game. It does seem to be the way baseball works.

Verlander is a great pitcher, but he still only has 11 wins in 20 starts, so its not like they're going up against the impossible. Nearly half the time he pitches, he's losing or tied when the final batter he's accountable for is retired.

Baseball doesn't allow for extremes, and the unpredictability that follows is fun to watch.

Well, McAllister has been our best starting pitcher the last two months. Still, he better hold Detroit to no more than one run, because I do not see us getting more than two.

By the sounds of it, we probably won't start on time due to thunder storms.

By the look of the forecast, we'll probably get the game in, but there could be delays.... not a bad thing with Verlander on the hill!

Lopez has to put that ball in his pocket.

Early adversity for McAllister, who hasn't dealt well with adversity brought on by his defense. Could be a real big spot for him confidence-wise.

That was a seed.

It's so good to see Choo driving the ball this season after such a rough 2011.

Verlander's just warming up though!

If you're gonna get him it needs to be in innings 1-3 as he's normally around 91-93mph, but after that he's breezing 97+mph.

Need Z-Mac to have a quick inning here.

It's amazing how free and easy Verlander is when he's throwing triple digits.

Thanks to crap fielding Z-Mac is up to 46 pitches. Took "only" 15 pitches in the second. Meanwhile, our swing-early group worked Verlander all the way up to 6 pitches in the first. Great...

In Verlander's career, opposing hitters are batting .157/.227/.226/.454 with two strikes.

He's one guy I'm ok with swinging early against. He doesn't get tired until he's in the 130s in pitches.

Hernandez's first inning in the minors goes ground out, ground out, E5, 2-run HR, K.

Threw 24 pitches and was sitting 89-91mph with the fastball.

Santana back to being Santana. He's 18-for-104 in his career against the Tigers. That's .173.

Hard to ask for more than that from Z-Mac.... 2ER in 6IP.

Need the offense to somehow squeeze a couple of runs across.

Going back to the game in Tampa when Carlos broke his HR slump, he's batting .393/.514/.893/1.407 with 5 2B and 3HR in his last 9 games.

Reverse jinxed Santana here. Reverse jinxed Verlander on Twitter. Not too shabby. Solid effort by me. I also didn't go to the game because they're 0-6 since my last win that I saw on May 22.

I missed a week while on vacation and they went 4-2 at home (5-2 overall).
