One more place we'll now have to wait 20 minutes to get through a security check.

1. Melt down all handguns except for LEO and Military (apparently a rifle in this shooting as well).

2. Arm everyone.

Shitty.

Just awful. Should remove our stance against cruel and unusual punishment for this asshole.

Let this be a lesson to you all. Never, ever, go to any movie where people are dressing up in character. This includes any super hero dress-ups, Harry Potter or that Rocky Horror picture show.

If you ask me to list the top five places some wack-job is likely to be hanging out, a dress-up movie is top of the f'ing list.

And if you go to next years Comican, at least wear a vest.

If only they had a sign on the door saying that it is unlawful to carry a firearm onto the premises like they do here at the theater in Strongsville...then this whole thing could have been avoided.

My co-workers mother in law was in that theater. Got out shortly after the shooter started lighting up the place. He stopped by my office to say he'd be out the rest of the day, he was still shaking. Pretty effed up.

Good to hear from you, Z. You're the only person I know out that way.

Hope all of your friends and family are safe.

I don't think I've ever been in a movie theater with 70 other people. I can't imagine a full theater with nothing but chaos going on.

Yeah, that's just it. Gun control is such a crazy issue. Crack down hard on who can buy and how, and the psychos will still find ways to get them. Make it easier for everyone to be armed in order to "protect" themselves, and suddenly, you don't know who's packing and what their mental state is.

Apparently this fucknut was a PhD student in neuroscience with no criminal record except for a traffic violation. Not exactly any red flags being thrown up when he was obtaining his arsenal.

It's a hard side to sit on either way. I'd say I'm right down the middle on the issue because I see both sides, which doesn't fix anything, either. (Although I will say that when the founding fathers wrote the second amendment, I don't think they had automatic assault rifles in mind.)

I think the founding fathers probably thought guns would advance. They started with actual hand cannons in China, then went to matchlocks, then to smooth bore muskets, then to rifles.

For a rare change, CNN had a decent article. More gun control isn't the answer. Giving everyone a free gun isn't the answer. Like CTD said, sometimes crazy fuckers do crazy things. If it wasn't shooting up a theater, this guy would have probably crashed his car into a crowd of people on the side of the road or something. You can't outlaw crazy anymore than you can fix stupid.

Then you get a scenario like this, lending some weight to the argument of why we should allow people to have guns on them.

The gun control debate is almost quaint. Quaint b/c it's meaningless. Politically, we've ceded gun policy to the NRA, for good or ill. 2nd Amendment absolutists have nothing to worry about about, since modern Dems. will never seriously propose it.

I'd only ask: Do we need to make it so damn easy to buy an arsenal like this scum had? Or are fears of gov't overreach enough to genuinely override that?.

You know what? Not fair.

I don't know what shifts those parents work or anything else. Maybe they're new in town and the baby quietly attends and that way they aren't leaving the child with someone they don't know.

Presumptuous.

I've long been a ban all hand guns kinda guy.

No more.

Lock and load.

Every a-hole who looks at me sideways gets a slug in the thigh. If he cries out, one between the eyes. Time to get back to the old days when callin' a guy yella meant death. Legally.

I'll be goddamned if my 5 month old can't watch an inherently violent and age-inappropriate movie in peace.

The anti gun people have no teeth to back up their demands for the banning of guns.

They're lacking the proverbial "iron in the glove".

How would the confiscate them?

Probably by sending ARMED government pigs to the front doors of peaceful peoples' homes.

In that case, i'd have to give them up, but they'll get the ammo first.

By any means necessary. You want a shotty or rifle, fine. But every registered handgun is confiscated. Every gun show shut down. Every crazy ass, backwoods bumpkin who has been collecting an arsenal in case the gubment comes to get they welfare check is disarmed or shot dead.

I have no beef with guns. I also have no reasonable justification for handguns.

Then we can move onto cross bows, compound bows, long bows, fillet knives, steak knives, exacto knives, swiss army knives, sharp soup can lids, rocks, bricks and anything else that can be used to take a life or wound.

Everything will be great except it'll be tough to clean fish and cut steak.

I'll abide by your plan. But I'm going last. Once you get all the other weapons off the street I'll gladly give you mine.

C'mon now, that's not even reasonable.

The next time a guy shoot 71 people w/ a crossbow will be the first.

All lefty-hippy bullshit aside, argue for them.

Crazy people will always do crazy things, but would anyone's life really change if handguns were illegal for the general public?

You send armed thugs to peoples' homes, you're going to run out of flags to drape over the coffins.

I'll keep my handguns. Like I said, no teeth to back up the demand to give them up.

Hand gun collections have been proven to have little to no impact on reducing hand gun crime(s). IIRC the PD even did a story in this in the past year or so.

Complete waste of time to "go get the handguns".

Besides gun shows are the safest place around.

Counterintuitive? Since when has it been illegal to have a handgun? Would it be the same as the war on drugs?

Less guns = less chance of gun crime, statistically speaking.

I think you're being facetious, but you're not that good. No civilian is when aiming at a live target. You draw down on someone, aim center mass, right at the breastbone, and pull the trigger. Multiple times.

The more guns in untrained hands that would have been in that movie theater, the more people would have died.

Some tragedies simply cannot be explained. Arming Joe Six Pack (not directed at you by any means, just an example) is not the solution. But I don't know what is.

Words really cannot express how depressing this is.

Not arguing specifically for guns, knives, soup can lids. Point is, I don't need these politicians in this era of politics telling me what's safe, what I can have and what I can't.

Maybe you have a higher opinion of those running the country than I do. That's a different thread I guess.

Won't stop crazy. Won't hurt it either.

He used a shotgun and a rifle in the attack.

And enough with trying to make every gun owner sound like an ignorant redneck.

For every one of you, there are 1000 who aren't.

Unfortunately I'll take the odds against you.

You see, I don't feel i'm responsible for the actions of the people who break the law. The way the law works is, you punish the criminal and not everyone else too just because of sensational headlines and media types drooling over body counts.

Now if i'm out arming toddlers, then I should probably go to jail.

How many interviews are they gonna have with people THAT BROUGHT THEIR INFANTS TO A MIDNIGHT SHOW.

If you bring a toddler to a midnight show, you are both a bad parent and an asshole. As a matter of fact, the interview questions shouldnt deal with how they shielded JR. with gunfire, they should include the inquiries about the price of a lap child at a midnight special, and how tough it must be to find a sitter between the hours of 11:30 and 2:00.

Christ, some baby cryin' behind me, or some MLP kickin' my seat....

Anyone else having that sinking feeling that their child has little chance in this world.

People are fucking stupid.

I dig. I just can't wrap my head around how your life would be any different if it were illegal to own handguns or semi-auto weapons.

C'mon now, that's not even reasonable.

The next time a guy shoot 71 people w/ a crossbow will be the first.

All lefty-hippy bullshit aside, argue for them.

Crazy people will always do crazy things, but would anyone's life really change if handguns were illegal for the general public?

Yes. Because I have the right to carry one. I went through all the proper legal channels to make sure.

I'm not especially a proponent of gun control laws, nor am I a card carrying NRA asshole. I've never shot a gun, and don't especially have much of a desire to; although I suspect I would if given the opportunity. I don't have any problem with most people owning guns. Guys like Peek, CDT, et al seem to have their heads on straight enough that I don't feel like I have to worry much about seeing their ugly faces on he front page of Yahoo gollowing yet another senseless tragedy.

That being said, can someone defending their right to bear a fucking arsenal, including machine guns and tear gas, and whatever the fuck else I can't ever imagine needing...why does the USA seem to have such an astronomically higher amount of gun related crime than so many other nations with stricter laws?

Once again the cat barks at the dog.

Are you retarded?

I have to ask because that's a retard's question.

I'll explain it like you're an 8 year old;

Yes I use it for defense, at my old job I had to travel to areas of town that were not safe, so I got a CCW permit. Since my new job doesn't involve that, I don't carry daily anymore. I still have it for home defense.

Do I want to use a gun on another human? No. Am I afraid to use it on another human who breaks into my home or threatens my life? No.

I have 11 firearms, all locked up in a 500lbs safe, except for my pistol I keep on the nightstand.

There are so many circumstances when everyone would run over to the neighbor's that had guns for protection that it isn't even worth discussing.

And you don't need guns to become a homicidal maniac.

340+ million people chose not to shoot somebody at a movie theater that night, but let's punish all of them because one guy did chose to.

Makes sense.

::doh::

Everyone has a right to protect themselves in their home, a handgun is a logical choice of weapon seeing as most homes aren't 100 yards in width or length. With exception of a shotgun stick the rifle up your butt for home protection v. a handgun. Just learn how to shoot your freakin handgun.

If you enter my home uninvited you'd rather me bust out my S&W .357 b/c otherwise I'm gonna go Hannibal Lecter on your ass, and who knows when somebody will find you, and where.

...and I saw that peeker.
