Dewey Howard Soap Opera

Unread postby e0y2e3 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:10 am

This is now officially really, really interesting. As Darryl Morey, aka the most overrated GM ever because he's friends with Simmons, has decided he has to have Dewey, no matter what.

Currently he's accumulated the 14, 16 and 18 picks in the draft, which along with Kyle Lowry (remember when the Cavs tried to steal him) gives them a really interesting combination of options here. Word has it they are trying to get a top ten pick as well to make the trade literally too much for Orlando to say no to.

Let me ask you: Is he and his baggage even worth Houston, or anybody really, going after?

Dude sank the Magic last year. Why would anybody want that?

He is a complete and utter cocksucker, one of the two biggest in the League with Melo and a notch above Wade and Blake.

That said, he also is the second best player in the league and Morey's reign as GM has been, up to now, a huge failure.... no matter how much Bill Simmons wants you to think differently. This, per Woj, is Morey trying to put together a package the Magic "can't turn down" and is a last ditch effort for Morey to land that star he has been promising Houston since T-Mac and Yao got hurt.

And, no matter how much of a cocksucker Dewey is, he still is the second best player in the league right now. Shit like that means something.

I don't even get the allure there, for Dewey.

KL is a nice peice to play with, but why not go to Jersey and play with Deron + whatever they get for Lopez, in trade? Hell, Wallace may even come back, given that option.

Huh? A) Lowry wouldn't be on the team if Dwight was there, and B) the Rockets have been a .500 team for the last few years. Lots of decent players but no stars. Dwight and Scola would be a devastating frontcourt, IMO they would complement each other very well. Dragic was a monster last year after Lowry went down. Kevin Martin, Courtney Lee, Marcus Morris, Chandler Parsons would be the shooters to surround Dwight. They'd be an instant contender out West.

Lowry would be gone in any trade for Dewey, Dragic and his superhuman stats from last year won that job.

That said, Parsons, Dragic (word is he has given Houston a Boozer style promise to come back), Martin (if healthy) Dewey and Scola would be a team that would do some damage in the playoffs.

Booklyn, on the other hand, has three pieces, Hump, Crash and D-Will, all of which are FAs at this exact moment.

Does Houston take that risk and HOPE they can convince him to sign long term. Seems like a huge gamble, especially if Dewey hasn't had the Rockets on his radar as one of his "destinations". Also can Houston free up enough cap space to afford Howard and say a D-Will?

What risk is there? They have two players that play the same position and a bunch of parts that will not go anywhere without a star around them.

You aren't getting a star even if you trade up to 7 in this draft.

Morey has built the ultimate middling disaster of a team and frankly if he doesn't roll the dice he's going to permanently be trapped in eight seed at best hell.

(of note: that middling 8 seed in the West is still so far superior to the Cavs it isn't funny)

I'm sure Dewey will spout off on his desires to play in a big market, not realizing Houston is the 5th largest metro area in the US.

Also worth noting, Ferry is going to blow up the Hawks and word is (per Stein) Morey will go after Josh Smith if Orlando won't budge.

Which, of course, makes zero sense. Horford is so far superior to Smith it isn't funny and is locked up for four years at reasonable pay.

Yeah, this shit is gonna get crazy, Houston now has an offer of the #14, #16 and Lowry for Tyreke and #5 on the table, up to Sacremento.

And of course, Beal, Barnes, Robinson and MKG all refused to work-out for the Kings so they are kind of fucked with the #5 pick.

What a gawd damn mess this is all going to end up being.

And does Reke, #5 and #18 plus future picks get you Dewey?

Probably because Smith would be far easier to land than Horford. I can't see an All-Star talent on a four-year contract going anywhere for anything less than the sun the moon and the stars.

(Not that it stops me from daydreaming that Ferry really misses Varejao...)

And I'll bust a nut laughing if Morey blows his wad for Howard, only for Dewey to take off in FA. I can already see that trainwreck coming together as we speak.

Lee, do you really think Lowry and three picks in the teens gets it done for Howard? They had an offer of Bynum on the table as recently a few months ago. This guy Hennigan just took the job, I would think he'd hold out for a better package than that, or at least a comparable one that's easier to sell to fans. It's the prudent basketball move to load up on picks and shed Turk's contract(among others), but they'll tie him to the tracks of Space Mountain if he doesn't get an All Star caliber guy. I know the Magic don't want to go through the circus of waiting until the deadline again, but it's not like they're a contender anyway.

Bynum was never, ever, ever, ever, ever on the table.

And no, the three picks in the teens are going to be used to collect more assets.

The best offers to date are Pau and his crazy contract/age and Brook Lopez. Both of which suck.

Sorta off topic but what is Pau's value in a trade now anyway? He seems a slightly older version of the same guy who was lambasted for the same issues before the lakers traded for him. In between, he was considered an integral part of a perennial title contender.

He's still a top 3 center and still possibly the best offensive low-post player in the league (I see he and Bynum as a toss-up, Bynum obviously has the strength and power but Pau can do it all). Just needs to get away from the Lakers. They shoulda known the non-stop trade rumors would wreck the confidence of the two softest guys in the league.

Thinking about it, Morey, if he gets Howard, puts himself in a good position. He has cap room to sign another impact player to pair w/ Howard and suign him long term. OR. Trade deadline rolls around, Howard says I'm not signing w/ you no matter what, Morey now had the ultimate trading chip and can get more back than what he gave up to get Howard.

IF this goes down, that is

I heard La wants a top 10 pick for him.

I've been too afraid of EYE to suggest this scenario, but what if....

We draft MKC at 4 & trade both 2's and the LA 1st to move up for T Ross.

Would we and cuild we trade next year's 1ast for Pau?

Lineup goes:

Kyrie
T Ross
MKG
Side Show Bob
Pau

With TT rotating in to give Pau rest with Andy sliding up & out.

I doubt the NBA is set up fo rthe Cavs to ever contend again until/unless we get the next LBJ, so why not go for it before Irving leaves and at least win?

Pau, at this stage in his career, is not what he was two years ago. He is coming off of his worst shooting year of his career, is 32 and is owed MUCHO money for the duration of this contract.

His most suitable system right now is the triangle, which capitalizes on his passing skills but that system doesn't really exist in the NBA right now.

Pau in Cleveland is a joke, due to age, career trajectory and max salary status.

More specifically with the cap space, the clearing is to allow Houston to absorb many of Orlando's shit contracts. Interesting play by Houston and my guess is Orlando will continue to wait out Bynum and LA. Sooner or later Dewey is going to either one.

Will be real comedy when Dewey bolts Houston though after all this and ends up in Dallas or something.

Even if Houston pulls this off, isn't this basically a worse version of the Orlando franchise moved into the Western Conference? They will have amnestied Scola and added Howard and Jason Richardson, Big Baby, Chris Duhon and Turkeglu). Even if Lin's deal doesn't get matched (it will), most of the Rockets' roster from last year would be gone, along with all those first round draft picks from this year plus multiple firsts?

Looks to me like the Magic would be crazy not to take anything like this deal; they're basically going to get 5-6 first round picks, lose all of their bad contracts and get an accelerated rebuild.

Meanwhile, once someone goes through and figures out what Morey actually paid to get Howard (including everything he paid to get THESE assets that he's trading away), he should never be heard from again.

For whatever reason, and regardless of ownership or FO, the Rockets org has historically been myopic for building around a big at the 5. Still hungover from the Mo Malone years, I guess. Then Olajuwon, then Yao and now Dewey. Back in the day it made sense. Now? Not so sure.

So let me make sure I get this straight:

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/81625 ... ght-howard

Houston gets Dewey and the horrible contracts of:
Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon, and Glen Davis

Orlando gets Kevin Martin, Patrick Patterson, Chandler Parsons, Marcus Morris, Jeremy Lamb, Terrance Jones, Royce White and multiple first round picks....

This would be Orlando's new lineup:
C - Gustavo Ayon, Daniel Orton, (I guess....), Kyle O'Quinn (looked ok watching the Boston vs Orlando summer league game if that means anything more than absolutely nothing)
PF - Patrick Patterson, Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Morris, Royce White, Justin Harper
SF - Chandler Parsons, Terrance Jones, the corpse of Quinten Richardson
SG - Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb
PG - Jameer Nelson, JJ Redick

No real nasty contracts there.....I would take this lineup over the Cavs any day of the week and twice on Sunday if we didn't have Kyrie Irving.

This would really get their rebuild going....especially with the first rounders they would be getting as well.

Why exactly hasn't Orlando jumped all over this like a fat kid on a donut?

My guess is they want to see if they can get one really good player (Bynum) instead of a bunch of decent players/role players.

They'd also pretty much have to make another trade to get rid of some of their PF's...especially when you consider Jones can (probably) play PF as well. It's possible they could turn a couple of them into a draft pick or a decent player.

But yeah, if Houston's willing to give up everything for Howard...it's really tough for Orlando to say no.

Couldn't we work in sending Side Show Bob down to Orlando for JJ Redick and one of those power forwards like Andrew Nicholson or Royce White? It should fit with salaries after the rooks sign.

But, would Orlando want to do this?

Yeah, I'm a big fan of basketball and xbox. Gears of War is probably my favorite game so whether I'm posting on sports boards (which until recently I haven't done here very often but I've been here since berniesinsiders over on the now scout boards) or video game boards I use that pic.

Works out ok.

I'd take Bynum if that rumor were even close to being true.

Well, played around with the trade machine....this is what I came up with for salaries (not saying this would have a chance in hell but hey I'm bored)

Cleveland gets Andrew Bynum
Lakers get Dwight Howard
Orlando gets Luke Walton, Daniel Gibson, Tristan Thompson

It fits in the trade calculator. Now I'm not saying that this would be close to enough without mucho draft choices but it fits. I'm also guessing Orlando would want us to take on some of their crappy contracts which we could.

If that Bynum deal goes down, I'm happy as hell. I think the Irving/Bynum combo would be better than any combo LeBron was a part of when he was here.

I know that this might go does as the craziest sh t anybodys gonna say for the next 48 hours, but I'm gonna say it anyway. With what the Browns did this offseason (I think they did great), and the Tribe's above average play, if we get Bynum, it will be the highest level of optimism I've ever had, collectively for the three teams here.

That being said, I couldn't find a damn thing about this deal on ESPN this morning, but I did find an article on SI.com; sounds like they're a looong way from making a deal, but I've definitely got my fingers crossed.

Oh yay another retarded Dwight "rumor"!

The Cleveland Cavaliers may have inched ahead of the Houston Rockets as a facilitator in a potential trade that would send Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said Wednesday.

One source familiar with the talks, though, cautioned to not make too much of that shift just yet.

The Cavaliers would land Lakers center Andrew Bynum for a package of draft picks and veteran power forward Anderson Varejao, according to one league source. The Lakers would receive Howard for Bynum.

Um...isn't this basically the same thing that was rumored and then debunked days ago?
