Gilbert has admitted on many occasions he never wanted to be a luxury tax spender and he only did as part of his efforts to save LBJ.

I fully expect a team going forward that stays around the total cap number and pays at most a very small tax amount.

That said, he does have more then enough cap room right now to trade for a shitty 1 - 2 year contract and not worry about it (similar to Walton) so the option is there and he can afford it.

Personally, I still maintain that if they can get Beal and then pry Batum away from Portland they have to do it.

a Batum - Beal - Kyrie core is just sick. Then you try to get some real front court depth that can score with the rest of the draft.

I would absolutely hate to lose the #24. I am not sure I would pull the trigger on the trade. A shooting guard that can score, though, is something we haven't seemed to have in quite some time.

Fab Melo is pretty meh.

And SG's that can score are a league wide problem right now. I sit and take MKG because I think long term he will be a very good fit, but acknowledge that in the short term with a useless PF and Andy the team would really only be scoring in transition.

If the Bobcats really want Thkmas Robinson, and the Cavs really want to trade up, then this should be an easy trade to pull the trigger on for Charlotte. They can pick up a pick and still get their guy at 4. It would be a win-win for both teams in my opinion. It would suck losing 24, but maybe we can package a veteran or two with 4 and keep 24. However that's probably just wishful thinking.

He's usually in the 10-15 range. Ford has him at 12 (Bucks) in the latest mock. I hope they aren't trading back but nothing would surprise me.

If they trade back at all then they should be drawn and quartered. They appear to be lucking out and have a good chance at 1 of 3 guys in this draft who have the possibility of being impact players in the league at positions where they have nothing.

This is not MLB or the NFL. You do not win by accumulating midrange talent.

Also worth noting, the Bobcats are demanding Tyrus Thomas be included in any deal for #2 (3yrs at 26 million). Watching Tristan Thompson and Tyrus Thomas play on the same team could cause some sort of vortext that ends basketball as we know it.

I think if the Cavs trade down with MKG on the board or an easy swap with Charlotte for the #2 available, I may just give up on this franchise. It's one thing to screw the pooch on the late lottery/mid first round selections, it's quite another when you've got 3 picks in the top 4, two years running, and manage to fuck up 2/3 of them.

Barnes would have me ledging, but i'd still watch through splayed fingers. Anything less than that and i'm out.

One of the major problems with dropping from 24 into the teens is that the new CBA/luxury tax still doesn't kick in until 2014. Due to the increased punitive damages teams are very likely willing to eat big salary for two more years (see the Wizards trade), knowing that they still have that window to pay the tax without any punitive penalties and they can makesure they have financial flexibility when the penalties are in place in 2014. IMO, 1 and 2 year bad deals are more valuable to hold onto now than ever before unless you are helping out a team chasing a FA (Dallas trying to trade Odom to the Clippers w/ Mo Gotti ending up a Laker style) or a team paying a shit ton of tax already (see The Lakers dumping Sad Odom last year).

I highly doubt they have ANY notion of taking Ross at #4. It would be an incredible waste of value in that spot when they could trade back with Portland more than likely and get 6 and 11. Aside from taking Drummond, it'd have me ledging.

That said, I think this time right now is the silly time. We truly have no idea how this is going to play out until MJ makes his call on that #2 pick. Until then or a pre-draft trade is can go 10 different directions.
