Damn!

Carlos can't get the run in.

Masterson has been throwing the ball well and we're getting traffic against Arroyo, but can't get that run home!

Alright, so it used to be that Santana was a hitter that could also catch.
Now, he's a pretty good catcher, but he isn't hittin for sh!t.
I mean there's about nothing positive you can say about him at the plate.

Kip's played every game this year.

It's not uncommon for a manager to give a guy a day off right before an off day - give's him two days off to rest up.

I don't have a problem with it... it's the kid's first full season, can't expect him to play all 162 games.

0-for-8 with 3 Ks in the series probably makes it an easier decision for Manny as well.

This home run by Johhny Effin' Damon (That's his official name to me now) makes me think more and more that he's a Game of Thrones character come to life. He does things that seemingly advance his own cause, sometimes at the expense of other people.

Then one day he'll sack Winterfell or behead Asdrubal Cabrera.

There's a reason Arroyo gave up 46 HR last season.

For those of you interested, former Indians farmhand Chris Archer (DeRosa trade to Cubs, Garza trade to TB) is starting for the Rays tonight.

I think that breaks a pretty long streak of games started by a pitcher they drafted for TB (I wanna say 180+ games).

Masterson dealing..... faced the minimum and only 61 pitches through 6.

Could really do with him going the distance as I imagine Smith and Pestano both unavailable tonight.

Agree. Would be nice to get Kip, Smith, and Pestano back-to-back days off and still win.

Good to see the offense have a little fun. A snowman without Kip in the lineup.

Chiz drew a walk, Damon hit a home run, Masterson went the distance. Enjoy it now but don't get used to it.

Good point about Damon finally starting to hit, though. Now we just have to hope he doesn't knock himself out for the year trying to field a ball.

Masterson is back on top of his game, Ubaldo is taking baby steps, Tomlin pitched very well in his last start, and this guy Rogers is a huge improvement over Wheeler and Ascencio. Hafner is ahead of schedule. Santana is starting to hit a little. It's looking like all systems go. Gotta take the Astros series and then we'll see how they do against the mighty Yankees.

After the Astros series it's 13 straight games against the Yankees, Orioles, Angels and Rays. The Bataan Death march leading up to the All-Star break. If we're still within a couple of games of first after that, then we have to be buyers.

Assuming the back end of the pen is a constant, if the starting pitching is eating innings and getting a lot of quality starts in, they should be buyers. It would probably mean they are winning their share anyway, but if not, they'd still need to be buyers for RH hitting.

EDIT: imo, we can just assume all the other teams in the division will be taking some steps to improve themselves before the deadline.
