CAVS trade offer for # 1 pick

My son just sent me a text saying the cavs are in talks to trade up to number one slot. Googled it and found several articles. The first was a CAVS offer to Portland to trade 4 and 24 for 6 and 11. The other interesting article was the CAVS offering all four of their picks for the # 1. I can see the CAVS trying to package both of their ones for Portlands picks. If they can accomplish that, do you think we have enough additional ammo to offer #'s 6 and 11 with something/somebody else and actually get the # 1 pick? Probably a lost cause but at least they are trying.

Anthony Davis will be a Hornet. And damned if it doesn't look like Harrison Barnes will be a Cav no matter where they pick.




I wouldn't trade back in this draft but the Cavs are so in love with Barnes that they're trying to trade back and still get him.

If that happened NBA owners would vote 28-1 to veto the trade. Benson would abstain while overseeing Demps hospital visit for a brain MRI and a pysch evaluation. The NBA would institute the Demps Rule™ to go along the Stepien Rule™ preventing teams from trading picks in the NBA draft that set their franchise for generations.

FWIW, I imagine that every team does this every year. Most likely more due diligence than honestly expecting to get the deal done.

I'd be surprised if we didn't make a trade. We have so many picks it's actually entered us into a kind of danger zone. You can only keep so many guys on the roster at once, and you have a salary floor. Too many rookies and 2nd year guys and you can't make that floor, so you'd have to release guys you picked anyway.

It sounds stupid at first, but think about it. Just how many 1st-3rd year players can you carry?

/just read that if you don't make the floor...the remaining money gets evenly distributed throughout the roster. So maybe its not the problem I think it is.

Trades happen with picks 20 down (typically teams punting them) all the time, saying the Cavs may punt a second rounder is hardly going out on a limb.

I'd much rather they store a foreign player abround, but they are fairly allergic to that practice.

Why can't this be a similar situation to Penny and 3 1sts for C-Webb? Is Anthony Davis a bigger prospect now than Chris Webber was then? (Honest question - I'm too young to remember.) Yeah they had Shaq already, but wasn't C-Webb also a once in a generation type talent, and yet his draft rights were traded?

I hold out zero hope of this happening, but its not totally without precedent.

Studying Nixon is like studying Einstein while also accepting that he has a slight drug problem. One of the most amazing things anyone can ever do. Bill is the closest we have ever seen and he doesn't even amount to a third of what Nixon was geopolitically.
