Anyone see it?

It was 2:40 and that was enough to allow it to conform mostly with the book. I liked that it wasn't rushed.

I like Rooney Mara. She was solid.

But I thought Daniel Craig and much of the rest of the cast were flat and lifeless.

Reading the book, the image in my mind's eye was that Blomkvist was more a player and that there was more vibrancy in him, at Millenium and in his relationship with Erika.

Robin Wright was flat in that role, the Nils Bjurman character was better but not quite evil/animated enough....

I don't know. I was a bit disappointed in the movie when all is said and done.

I will say they spared no emotions in the rape scene between Bjurman and Lisbeth nor in the scene where she exacts her revenge. Very, very brutal and graphic. My 17 yr old daughter wanted to see it so I took her and it was an uncomfortable couple minutes watching that, I'm not gonna lie.

I feel almost obligated now to watch the Danish version (or whatever language that one is) to see if they captured it better than this one did.

The Swedish version is excellent, Noomi Rapace is Lis Salander to me. I'll wait till it comes out on blu-ray. I'm not a big supporter of remakes anyhow.

Daniel Craig is another stiff of an actor too.

Fincher's Hollywood version broke no new ground. Except that audiences didn't have to read captions at the bottom of the screen to know what was happening.

MGM/Columbia would have been better off to re-release a dubbed Swedish version here and save all the production costs of an entirely new project.

Rooney Mara really was great, and deserved her nomination for her acting. I also appreciate that she brought a different perspective than Noomi Rapace.

Simply put; the Swedish version was better. Fincher's version was more polished, slicker, and had (obviously) better cinematography and editing, but there is no doubt in my mind that the Swedish version was better...especially the ending. It may not seem much to the casual viewer, but I really didn't like how Fincher changed some of the points at the end (the lack of the Australia connection is all I'm going to say).

Good point. It felt a bit rushed in that regard. Like 2:40 was the drop dead number so wrap this thing up.

Agreed. Still wondering what it would have been like if Natalie Portman or Scarlett Johannson had gotten the part (both wanted it). Don't really see how Scarlett could have played such a waif-like character with the size of her boobs...but it does make a really nice mental image.

Mara played Lisbeth much more OCD and detached than I would have liked. She did show some kick-ass tendancies, but did it with almost completely dead eyes and Spock level emotion.

Noomi Rapace nailed it in showing the explosion that was always just below the surface of Lisbeth; something that could come out at any time. Her eyes told the story every scene; anger, hatred, and guarded contempt, but also you could see the hurt, distrust and sorrow that came as a result of all the other shit that had gone wrong in her 23 years.

When Mara’s Lisbeth beds Nordqvist, it’s no more than using him as a tool to masturbate. When Rapace does it, there is so much more underlying emotion to it. Yes, it’s a bad girl making it with a semi-famous man who is much older, but it’s also a sign that she’s found someone that she just might be able to trust.

This is why I felt the whole scene of Lisbeth taking a coat to Nordqvist as a gift, and then throwing it away when she saw him with Erika as not believable at all. It's Lisbeth that pushes Nordqvist away, not vice versa.

Finally watched the English version tonight. Watched the Swedish version many moons ago.

New Version = Stupid. Dumb. Shit.

I actually thought Mara was the best thing about the movie, but she's no Noomi.

It was like Mara was a Cleveland Brown, and she was trying to do the best she could with the shit surrounding. Noomi? A Packer.

Craig wasn't bad, but I didn't care about him so much. He wasn't the source of the major fuck-up. There were subtle things, like when Noomi let the fire burn at the end, but Mara didn't get the chance.

Noomi walked up and let it burn. Then we had the flashback to when she set her dad on fire. Mara didn't get the chance for any of that, presumably to placate the stupid fucking American audience.

I usually like Fincher, but he fucked up Princess Diana-ly in this one.

Watch the original. There is nothing better about the remake other than maybe you're too lazy to read subtitles.

Had a relaxing vacation on the Outer Banks last week, and due to a couple of days of less than perfect weather, I decided to sit down to a marathon of all three Swedish films.

After that, I don't think I will ever be able to watch the pale immitation English version again.

If you watched the Swedish versions, don't bother watching the American version. It's like watching a mediocre book adaption after you've already read the book.

If you haven't watched the Swedish version, it's probably fine. Like if you didn't read the book, you have no idea how crappy the film version is.
