300 dogs in attendance per the Indians. No word on whether or not they were included in the official total.

Casino prolly outdrew them tonight.

And somewhere, probably down in the depths of a count room, Dan Gilbert laughs.

If it actually improves Cleveland's "economy" I'm all for it, what the hell, why not? In fact, I will be doing some low stakes gambling before the Tribe v Tigers game Wednesday. It's a perfect little playground for small time degenerate gamblers like myself. I say this now, but walking out of the Horseshoe this time next week, I'll be grunting Eff you Dan Gilbert, and I'll be :pb:

Go do some actual research on the economic impact of Casinos as a vehicle to Urban Renewal.

I'll give you a hint as to what you'll find.... it's not one.

Cleveland has been getting a lot of positive press in quite a few places. I think it was NYT that had a "visit Cleveland" article a few weeks ago. Went looking and found this one dated today: http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides ... rview.html

Chef Michael Symon was the invited guest blogger for a Huffington post today: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/love-lett ... 18392.html

We have a few neighbors on our street that grew up somewhere else, spent time living in or near greater Cleveland, and have since landed here in Nowhere, MA. To a (wo)man, they all have said they would move back to NE Ohio before moving back to their home state.

Just waiting for the unemployment to run out. If Himself hasn't landed a job by then I'm getting a "For Sale" sign in the front yard.

RickNash, get me your address and I will mail you out the tickets to Tuesday night's Tribe/Tigers game.

Some of the fellas from the site are heading to that game as well. Join us at Harry Buffalo at like 6 for a pregame beer or 3 ... I'm buying.

That, plus wait/see mode is still in place. A lot of people were really disgusted with seeing CC and Lee face each other in Game 1 of the WS, with other teams. Just a fact. If the Indians keep winning, the fans will be back. And then after they begin to slide again, the residual effect will benefit the franchise again, with people still showing up to watch a team whose little window has closed.

It's the circle of life, Simba.

Fixed that for you.

Spend money. Give fans reason to get excited during the winter and you sell tickets.

Make money, do relatively nothing all winter, fans say screw you.

I think it boils down to this: A large portion of Cleveland fans don't want to spend money on a team that they believe (correctly or not) doesn't have winning as its primary goal. The fans are much more willing to buy into teams that try, but fail...and fail...and fail...then they are to a team that they perceive (again, correctly or not) gets wins by accident when it's just trying to make money.

(I don't believe this, but then, I live several hundred miles away and so I'm not buying any tickets either. Not really my place to complain.)

Second reason: Cleveland isn't a baseball town. Many fans won't pay to see a game just to see a game and be entertained for a few hours, unless they think the odds of winning are reasonably high.

Third reason: Even for the fans who plan to buy tickets for a couple games per year, there's no need to commit to going to a mid-week game in May when good seats will still be availale for a weekend in July.

To piggy back off Jumbo's post, the weather has also been crappy for much of the home schedule and school's not out yet. The select few nice-weather games have mostly been weeknight games.

I agree with this. I've been there a handful of times (and admittedly twice was with media creds) and the weather has been shitty.

Opener was cold (but sold out) and one game was rained out (and a 35 degree rain at that) as we headed down there, another game was 48-50 degrees.

I don't mind sitting in it and watching. Neither does my oldest. Bu the issue isn't us (the people who are die hards). The casual fan isn't going down there to watch ball on a school night in 45 degree weather. The casual fan ain't going to watch Jack Hannahan or Shelly Duncan or Michael Brantley when they still have visions of Matt Williams, Travis Fryman, ALbert Belle, David Justice and Kenny Lofton.

The casual fan, unless they were hit in the head in March, remembers a bigger lead in May of 2011 turning into a 15 game deficit by season's end last season. They're not buying in.

You can scream about til you're blue in the face. It doesn't the facts.

And you can make fun of the Cleveland fan base, But doing it here to people who are going and who are the die hards is petty and stupid and nothing more than trolling hard IMO.

33,519 are showing up on average to watch Jamey Carroll, Bernie Parmelee, Carl Pavano, and a collection of stiffs.

The horrible Colorado Rockies are raking in 31,940/night.

Fuck, even the pathetic Astros are drawing 7k more per game than us.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

And frankly, I wouldn't hold court if any team not named "Browns" moved in the future. Fan-bases either have to show support or they should lose their teams, hold them to the same accountability as any other reasonable customer. You don't go to your neighborhood store and instead go to Wal-Mart every day the neighborhood store closes.... sure some diehards were still going there and it sucks for them to lose their place, but reality is reality.

It's like anything else, a combination of different things. The cost of the entire night's experience, the weather (usually until mid to late May), some fair weather fans and the actual product on the field.

Many people put a different value on those 3 or 4 things.

I've always believed that winning is what matters. Not spending, exciting players, promotions like dog night, etc...

It's hard to say whether it's that way in Cleveland, or if the fans in Cleveland "suck" for whatever reason. If I'm not mistaken, I do think that the Indians outdrew their projection for last season. What affect the hot start has to do with that is dedatable i guess.

I think I read that studies have revealed that you don't really see attendence affected until the next season(s) after success. The last time that happened in Clevealnd was 2007, after which the Tribe promptly shit the bed right out of the gate in 2008. We really don't have a good example to look back at as to what can/should be expected if the Indians did put together a sustained run of success.

You know, the type of success that the Twins have enjoyed for a decade until very recently.

1994 Indians = very good.

Starting the season after that I recall something like 455 trillion straight sell outs, give or take a few...

So yeah, winning is a very big part of it, at any given time the biggest part of it.

Everyone has their own reason for going or not going. Trying to single out the magic "reason" is pointless.

If Jim Thome isn't brought in for an attendance boost the Indians miss their mark last year.

Indians fans will always show up for a taste of the 90's, becaue the Browns didn't exist then so it is their only good sports memories from the time.

And blow me FUDU, the Browns pack the house every single game and the Indians are DEAD LAST in the MLB by MILES in attendance.

Oh wait... the Browns threatened a black-out that one time last year!

Right, proving that this is in fact a Browns town and that we have truly special Browns fans. Also a factor is the sport and what goes with attending games, tailgating. Also V.2, only 8 chances a year to see your NFL team, 81 to "your' baseball team.

Tailgating & baseball? LMAO.

And if Cleveland wants to be a truly special Browns town that ignores other teams whenever they aren't giving them $.05 blow jobs Cleveland should lose the other teams in question, it is that simple.

It would truly suck for the people in here that are willing to pay 10 bones for that BJ, but the minority rarely wins and the minority in here is like the Samoens.... full of heart and shit, but there just aren't enough of you.

Just got back from the ticket window. Wanted to sit down tonight since I'll be making my fiancee stand on the Porch tomorrow and Sunday with our season tix.

Lower bowl's almost entirely sold out. Just some obstructed view in the LF corner and the double letter rows in the corner sections left.

Had to settle for mezzanine, but in Row H there. If they have any kind of walk-up crowd tonight, there's a shot at 30,000+.

According to the "pick-a-seat" on Indians.com there look to be plenty of lower bowl seats left. Most of the upper halves of each section look to be pretty open.

However, I counted each individual section and about an hour ago there were around 10,500 tickets still available. Not counting the 5,000 or so in the upper-deck in RF that isn't even open. So there were already 26-27 thousand an hour ago.

Posting error on my part. Meant to say lower reserved instead of lower bowl.

Thanks for setting it straight.

Ah, I see.

And I wasn't trying to correct you, just wondering why the ticket person was lying to you. :lmfao:

Now hopefully the team will put on a good show for the 30k or so that should be there.

He's actually been an asshole every time I've gone to his window. One time, I had to exchange my season tickets and I wanted tickets for the game that night. Apparently, even with paper tickets, I still have to exchange them online. However the hell that's done. He was a real prick about it and huffed about doing it for me today but that he'll never do it in the future.

Today, I had to wait for five minutes while he found a bottle of Windex since he couldn't deal with his window being a little bit dirty. When he couldn't get it all the way clean, he slid the paper towel under the window and asked me to clean the front side of the window for him.

To be fair, you do kind of give off a janitor vibe.

When I ever had to exchange season tix I always have gone to the window. I didn't even know you could do it online.

Nothing better than calling fans front runners for not showing up to watch a team in first place.

Touche.

In my defense, since I got my license in 2006 or whenever it was, I've gone to at least 30 games a year.

If I had cash, and didn't work during most of the games, would be more than happy to attend a few of these games. In fact, already planning to do so with a few buds this summer.

Driving up from Akron/Canton costs a bit of money in gas, and you factor in parking, food, etc. You're spending quite a bit at times.

"But you'd see the Browns!"

If I'm given tickets? Absolutely. I've gone to Browns games when they were WELL out of contention. But you wouldn't get me to spend money for that crap.

I feel bad not being able to support the Tribe more. Hopefully that will change later on.

EDIT: To add, I have gone to a few Aeros games. More people in the Akron Area should pay attention to that team right now. Their first in their division, and have beaten the last two teams they've played upwards of around 15 points.

Most of the media had walked away and most recorders were off when he was asked if it bothers him to be booed.

“It doesn’t bother me. It pisses me off. I don’t think they have a reason to boo me,” Perez said. “They booed me against the Mariners when I had two guys on. It feels like I can’t even give up a baserunner without people booing me. It’s even worse when there’s only 5,000 in the stands, because then you can hear it. It pisses me off.”

There's only one franchise in this city that deserves booing and apathy, and it's headquarters are on lou groza blvd.

I heard, and I believe, that the fans booing the other night when he came in wasn't about Perez. It was more that they didn't want Acta to bring in the closer in a non-save situation. They we actually booing Acta because Perez is too valuable to use unless it's a save. Or something.

I understand that this is equally stupid. But it's less aggressively so.

Either way, yeah, the fans have been bad so far.

“Guys don’t want to come over here and people wonder why,” Perez said. “Why doesn’t Carlos Beltran want to come over here? Nobody wants to play in front of 5,000 fans. We know the weather sucks, but people see that. Other players know that.”

“You had a choice of playing in St. Louis where you get 40,000 like Beltran chose to do, or you can come to Cleveland. It’s going to take more money to get him to come to Cleveland. That’s just how it is. That’s another thing that you have to go against. It’s not only the payrolls of the (American League) East teams, but that kind of stuff.”

Really, unless the reason is financial, or an Alberta Clipper is about blanket the greater cleveland area with snow, you don't really have an excuse to not go up to the ballpark and support this team.

I'll agree with him on that.

Right, Carlos Beltran heard that he might get booed in Cleveland. Obviously unable to handle that after 6½ years in New York City, Beltran ran as quick as he could to an offer of more money from the defending World Series champions.

If it weren't for the save statistic, no one would confuse Chris Perez with anything other than an average reliever.
