One thing that ticks me off about baseball is that Hag stands to win this if CP can get the save. WHY should he (not personally, but the pitcher who is supposed to hold then doesn't) get credit for a win? He wouldn't be in position to win if he hadn't blow the damn thing to begin with!

Agree. Also always thought pitchers' errors should count in their ERA.

There's stuff on offense I wish were handled differently too. Another thread, another day.

Perez has actually been perfect in 9 of his 16 games this year. I'm not sure what that means or what the average is for a closer...just looked it up is all. No hits or walks more than half of his appearances.

I think it is no coincidence that our improvement started when Chris Perez replaced Kerry Wood as closer.

He's been my biggest pleasant surprise this year. I thought he regressed a bit in 2011 from his great 2010. I was expecting more of the same this year but as you said, he's been consistently outstanding. Many clamor for Pestano to close but some can do it some can't. I look at Robertson...you could not touch him in the 8th this year...unhittable. Rivera gets hurt and he goes to closing and an unmitigated disaster so far. Still early for him. Perez is honest to a fault and I like that. I think I may have underestimated him. His reaction after the White sox blown tie game last week was perfect. It's major league hitters and he told all the reporters if they thought he wasn't going to give up another run all year they were crazy. His mindset is perfect for the job...he will blow some more this year, but not many.

To this day I say it's a travesty when Mitch Williams was robbed of the 1993 NLCS MVP award. The guy had 2 saves AND 2 wins.

You can get unticked. Joe Smith got the win, not Hags. Hags got a blown save.

What is unfair, however, is that Vinnie got credit for a "hold" when he gave up two runs in 2/3 of an inning. I guess if you come in with a three-run lead and give up two runs you get a hold, even if the next guy gives up the third run.

For those of you who think I'm slamming Perez, I'm not. It's just that some of his more memorable saves have been a bit exciting. Sometimes exciting isn't what I want when we get to Perez while hanging on to the lead by our fingernails. I liked the ninth inning of last night's game - have the lead at the middle of the ninth, then have Perez come in and throw a nice, simple, boring 1-2-3, 12-pitch save. Did my heart some good in more ways than one.
