Shitty end to the day. I just got a call from a certain lab that one of my maintenance guys failed his last random (selected by employee ID number) drug test (urine). It came back positive for marijuana. He has the option to re-test, but it has to be by Friday (original test on Monday) and he has to pay for it. If his 2nd test comes back positive, I have to terminate him. The whole thing is ridiculous, he's been there almost 2 years and hasn't missed a day of work, or even been late the entire time, and he's a hard worker.

I find the whole process to be a waste of company time and money. And a disgusting invasion of privacy. The idea that you get rid of an asset because he might like to smoke a doob here and there is the dumbest shit ever. These tests are also pointless because they're really only good at picking up pot, hard drugs leave your systems much faster.

This situation makes sick to my stomach....... literally.

I have no idea. Technically, I can't advise him on how to cheat a DT. All I can do is go to bat for him with the hotel manager and my boss. But these stupid rules are written in stone.

So basically we'll fire a guy who shows up and busts his ass. Then we'll waste more time and money interviewing, orientating, and training a new guy. Oh and he's the guy I usually put new people with for their first week.

It's obviously not affecting his job performance, so why give a shit about what he does in private?

Hair tests can be inaccurate and shouldn't be used IMO. Nyquill has been known to cause false positives for opiates, Sudafed for meth, ect ect......
