Roster moves

Unread postby Bigfist » Sat May 12, 2012 6:28 pm

Tomlin to the DL, with a sore right wrist, supposedly from gripping the baseball too tightly in the rain Monday night. Spot taken by McAllister, who will start tonite.

Lopez up, Donald down. Weglarz DFA'd to make room on the 40 man roster for Lopez. Wow, how Weglarz has fallen.

Guess that means Hannahan is the backup SS.

I know Donald has been fairly putrid but I fail to see what's changed in the space of a week to 10 days whereby they want to see more of Lopez.

Weglarz has been destroyed by injuries...... I would be surprised if someone claimed him.

Lopez is probably better suited for the play once-a-week role than Donald. You can tell it's really affecting Donald at the dish.

Not that it'll change, but maybe getting him some consistent ABs will help him and have him better prepared for when he returns.

That sucks because Zach McCallister is a fringe major leaguer, and that's being kind. Now we've got two really big turds in the rotation (Zach and Ubaldo) and a dingleberry with turd potential in Gomez.

Donald has proven in the past two years that he's a hack no matter where you put him out there in the field.

Hard to carry a utility guy like that.

And yes, he's shown better signs offensively over that time, but again, if you're a hack everywhere you gotta do more than hit. You gotta H-I-T.

He was hitting .529 in Columbus that's about all that's changed.

McAllister is a 24-year old with a career minor league ERA of 3.44. His strikeout rate took a nice jump this year, and he's a big, durable righty who can thrown a lot of innings. By no means is he a future ace of a staff or anything like that, but saying his upside is "fringe major leaguer" is probably a little harsh. He can be a 4/5 in the back end of a major league rotation, which is not a useless role.

Just came across the Tribe's official Twitter.

It's Jeremy Accardo.

Jesus. You really do have to be 30+ for the Indians to make you the sacrificial lamb.

Must be fearful of ruining Hermanns "upside".

Either that or his 'straight as an arrow' fastball isn't even cut out for the last spot on a roster.

Indians purchased the contract of RHP Jeremy Accardo from Triple-A Columbus.
Accardo was rocking a 2.76 ERA and 16/2 K/BB ratio through 16 1/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He will function as a middle reliever for the Tribe.

Shit, like I told you on Twitter, major league mop-up/long man is Herrmann's upside. Maybe they're trying their best to save his option year? Because he's a vital part of the core.

Hannahan back to the DL; Chisenhall up.

Asencio DFA'd; Tomlin activated.

Hopefully Chisenhall is here to play. Lopez can fill in at any infield position, and still play 4-5 days per week. Diaz, I guess, stays until Cabrera can go, then he will go back and another reliever called up, or so it would seem.
