Downtown Willoughby Red, White and Burn Off

All,

Saturday May 19th, there will be a festival in the heart of Downtown Willoughby featuring a rib burnoff from 12pm to 8pm. The following restaurants will be participating as will yours truly who will be pitmaster for John's Cafe. More detail is on the webpage below, but all proceeds go to the USO and all military members in uniform eat for free. Hopefully the weather cooperates as a lot of people are pushing the event to make it something special. Link to the main page is here:

Pfffft....McTrash ain't got shit on me. Bone-in country ribs are the way to go. Any fool can do babybacks with a decent rub and plenty of time. I can make fork tender, flavorful country ribs on the grill in 2.5 hours. While technically part of the boston butt/blade, I prefer them over babybacks both in flavor and texture. Saturday's batch is getting a 42 hour dry rub and my mom's homemade BBQ sauce (best BBQ sauce I've had - ridiculous fusion of Memphis/KC/'Lil bit of Asian). Making about 10 LBS of potato salad which I tried last night and it was perfect. 80 degrees and sunny is the forecast so its going to be a fucking blast. Needless to say, I am completely jacked for this.

Outside of John's Cafe, 2 doors down from Kleifeld on the main strip right before Pranzo. Will be getting there around 9 to setup, first batch should be done around 12:30, judging is at 1pm near the gazebo I think.

From what we were told, everyone ran out by about 4:30pm with the exception of Pranzo and Wild Goose. We came in 7th place out of 14th and were told by a ton of customers we should have done a lot better and easily had the best sauce. Not bad for a ragtag bar with no kitchen and a guy who doesn't cook for a living.

Got the tickets in the mail yesterday. Parking at West Side Market then taking the GLBC shuttle to the stadium. With work and whatnot, prolly will not be able to meet up with you guys at the Buff. If plans change, Ill try to post from my cell to see where you're at. Thanks!
