Downtown Willoughby Red, White and Burn Off

Unread postby RickNashEquilibrium » Wed May 09, 2012 10:42 am

All,

Saturday May 19th, there will be a festival in the heart of Downtown Willoughby featuring a rib burnoff from 12pm to 8pm. The following restaurants will be participating as will yours truly who will be pitmaster for John's Cafe. More detail is on the webpage below, but all proceeds go to the USO and all military members in uniform eat for free. Hopefully the weather cooperates as a lot of people are pushing the event to make it something special. Link to the main page is here:

A very good friend of mine (who I dont keep in touch with nearly enough) is one of the owners of Oliver Twist and Nickelbys. I think I'll give him a long overdue call.

But I DEFINITELY have get get a beer with you RNE.

Ricky, don't fall for it, it's a trap. No matter what DO NOT meet mother. Within two weeks he'll be calling you 15 times a day, texting you 30 and calling you the brother he never had.

I can't make myself get past the fact that the T-Shirt is jacked up.

There's no such thing as a "First Annual" anything.

It's "Inaugural" and then it becomes annual.

This year is inaugural. Next year is the 2nd (and now annual or, as they say 2nd Annual).

FUCK!!!!

How many times do I have to tell people this?

The event is now ruined and no one will show up.

Not because of "First Annual vs. Inaugural". Because motherscratcher says he's going.

The "Inaugural" thing just makes me sad.

That's my 22nd anniversary. No better gift I can give Lisa than my absence. I might have to go just have some ribs, beers and make fun of assholes in "First Annual" shirts.

Depriving yourself ribs and spirits in a festive atmosphere over tee shirt semantics seems... Counterproductive.

But if you show up e0y and I will buy you a beer

I'll be the guy there with a yoke of Schlitz and a grammatically proper shirt.

Oh... I'll be carrying the shirt and not actually wearing one.

And yeah.... those plastic 6-pack holders are called yokes. Or Flannisters.

You learned something today.

And an anniversary card with cash or a gift certificate would be nice. Ya know, for the wife.

Moscratch will be wearing a custom made shirt that says "Ribbed for his pleasure".

No.

If it survives to a 2nd annual whatever then just assume that means it was hella sweet.

This is a sneak preview of what you ladies and gents will be feasting on this Saturday if you choose to come. We've had so much good feedback, I'm considering buying another 10-20 LBS to keep going all day.

Pfffft....McTrash ain't got shit on me. Bone-in country ribs are the way to go. Any fool can do babybacks with a decent rub and plenty of time. I can make fork tender, flavorful country ribs on the grill in 2.5 hours. While technically part of the boston butt/blade, I prefer them over babybacks both in flavor and texture. Saturday's batch is getting a 42 hour dry rub and my mom's homemade BBQ sauce (best BBQ sauce I've had - ridiculous fusion of Memphis/KC/'Lil bit of Asian). Making about 10 LBS of potato salad which I tried last night and it was perfect. 80 degrees and sunny is the forecast so its going to be a fucking blast. Needless to say, I am completely jacked for this. :partyers:

Ribs are officially rubbed down, all 70 LBS of them. Got a decent amount of baby-backs, about 15 LBS of boneless country ribs, and a ton of bone-in country racks.

Where are you going to be RNE? Are you cooking over at 1899 or something? I'd like to pop in and have a beer.

Outside of John's Cafe, 2 doors down from Kleifeld on the main strip right before Pranzo. Will be getting there around 9 to setup, first batch should be done around 12:30, judging is at 1pm near the gazebo I think.

To anyone that came out on Saturday, thank you for the patronage. If you came out later and were unable to get ribs, my apologies. From what we were told, everyone ran out by about 4:30pm with the exception of Pranzo and Wild Goose. We came in 7th place out of 14th and were told by a ton of customers we should have done a lot better and easily had the best sauce. Not bad for a ragtag bar with no kitchen and a guy who doesn't cook for a living.

Got the tickets in the mail yesterday. Parking at West Side Market then taking the GLBC shuttle to the stadium. With work and whatnot, prolly will not be able to meet up with you guys at the Buff. If plans change, Ill try to post from my cell to see where you're at. Thanks!
