These were chosen singularly due to the climate/geography of the state, since every state is filled with good people and every state is filled with fucksticks and economies change.

States you'd gladly live in or move to:

1. California (as someone who lived there, I can easily say that it's awesome once you escape the LA urban sprawl)
2. Oregon
3. Washington
4. Alaska
5. Utah (once you kill off the Mormons)

States you'd give to Canada (I wouldn't do that to Canada since Canada is gorgeous)

1. Florida
2. Florida (it's that bad)
3. Nebraska
4. Texas
5. Kansas

Outside of the politicians, I just don't understand the hate for Texas. Austin, all by itself, puts Texas easily in the top 5. It would be #1 overall if you could relocate the UT campus elsewhere. (for JoJo, RIP)

Maybe a less shitty thread would be Best/Worst cities. That way you could include, for example, San Fran and not have to vote for Cali. Or Key West and still keep Florida as the overall worst.

I do like Austin. But I've driven over the length of Texas enough to hate its vast wastelands of boredom. You check your map and you still have 8 more hours to go in GD Texas. You could be 3 miles from the border and you still have 8 hours more driving.

That, and Houston and Dallas were unimpressive. And my time in El Paso... what a dump.

So you're probably right about the cities thing.

Don't have a feel for Fort Worthless, but I'm a big fan of Houston. Like all cities there are a lot of nice parts and a lot of crappy parts.

Yeah...Texas is big. I have a cousin in Ft. Worth who recently told me that Texarkana, Texas is closer to Chicago than it is to Ft. Bliss, Texas. I had a hard time believing it, so I checked it out via Google Maps...and he's right. 794 mi. to Chicago vs 812 to Ft. Bliss.

Austin is terrific. Houston equals Phoenix in the infrastructure being shocked by the population growth.

Dallas reminds me of the capital in the Hunger Games books: just fucking fake.

I'm sure there are tremendous areas in those places too but my choices would be based more on the laid back lifestyle and climates of the Carolinas and TN, etc. Good with the humidity and the mild weather in winter.

Not as big a fan of of the southwest although Texas has a few distinct climates because of it's size.

Oh.... the panhandle of Texas. Can not imagine a worse existence. Rather live in downtown Detroit or in East St. Louis.

My list is really a list of my best states as i really don't have a problem with any particular state. All states have nice areas and their share of good people and a**holes. My list is climate based also as i like warmrer climates. The humidity in Georgia is not that bad (overrated in my opinion) but the rest of the year is much better as long as you prefer warmer to cooler like I do. Some people like "sweathshirt weather" - I don't. I also like the abundance of sun outside of the lake effect, cloudy regions of the rust belt that is MI,OH,PA and NY.
