The Hughes pick baffles me. Not so much the position, but the player. Everything I've read says he's a late draftable project...you dont usually take those guys in the 3rd effing round.

One thing about Heckert...he targets and gets "his guys."

The problem is that "his guys" usually suck.

And a huge gaping hole at WR.

I'm w/SD. Hughes was obvious reach but fans will justify Weeden because that's what they do. It was still a reach there. Also agree he's now mine and I'll live and die with him.

None of us know. But when experts and pro personnel people are laughing and scratching heads it's another data point. Maybe H&H are smarter than everyone. They've certainly earned that distinction thus far.

I won't argue that any pick we've made was a reach in some degree, but I think you have to take our entire situation into consideration. Reach, OK, but out of desperation, urgency, etc...that is where the argument really is.


Maybe the only real advantage of having Holmgrem is that the players we've accumulated in the past 2 seasons will fit the scheme of the guy he will hire as HC in the next 9 months if Shurmur doesn't get er done (b/c MH will look for a coach of similar X & O background). Don't laugh, it's a legit possibility.

Bottom line for me is on paper the Cleveland Browns are better today than they were on Thursday on 7:15pm EST. That and $8.50 will get me a Chipotle burrito bowl.

No, it's really not. The only truthful thing (and I don't mean that in a bad way) that Holmgren has said in the past 2 years is "that's the last coach I'll hire".

Holmgren is not going to get the chance to fire Shurmur - if the Browns don't show improvement this year and get the fan base at least hopeful, then Lerner pulls the trigger and/or Holmgren pulls the ripcord and "retires".
