If the thought of simple route trees being called "exciting" by knowledgeable fans is not an indictment of the previous "system", then I don't know what is.

14-0 and a national championship game. If it's because of 38 m-routes to backs that's great. If it's because they run 'Dave' 38 times and win that's great.
It's still a simple matter of someone stopping whatever it is they're running.
When the next coach comes in and re-dedicates the Buckeyes to smashmouth B1G football he'll be lauded for that approach at that time.
It doesn't make the slightest bit of difference.
