I fully expected a midget dressed like a leprechaun when I clicked on this thread. I'm disappointed.

Just imagine CDT's disappointment when he hears his fellow countrymen and life long hero is gone.

Yea, news is slow to arrive in Cleveland. Was just going with the loose "news" connections provided by the OP.

Ah I remember OWS, I also remember when gas was $.79/gallon, people got 10 cents back for returning their 16oz Coke bottles and youth league sports teams were allowed to lose and have to deal with defeat.....those were the days.

Me too. I also remember when police brutality became something that was no longer tolerated and accepted.

Er wait, no, I guess I don't. Because it apparently still happens all of the fucking time. In 2012. In America.

Then again, it does only happen to dirty lazy hippies who should just go get a job and put themselves through school the way I theoretically would have done if my parents didn't pay for it.

Police brutality is one of the most despicable crimes IMO, it should never be tolerated. However you have to admit there is usually so much controversy over the vast majority of PB incidents that it all sometimes becomes a blur and boils down to questionable line of rights and such.

My point above was nothing more than saying "hey whatever happened to OWS" b/c they weren't hauled away and locked up, nor ordered by law to STFU & disappear forever. I guess they gave up, on their own accord. Strange that a group like that would give up, and in the makeup of today's society, shocking really.

It really isn't being discussed though, I mean it's forgotten about in regards to nothing has changed b/c of it/them, they weren't unprecedented, they didn't revolutionize anything, not even protesting. They are more the Cop Rock of protesting than they are the William Wallace.

Regarding police brutality, it isn't over talked as much as it is in general often overstated when looked at in a case by case context. But if implying I support it gets one off you right ahead, b/c I'm as non conformist as it gets. That is a big a reason as any other that I am willing to give OWS an open ear, however one can only sit and wait for substance & credibility for so long.

Peeker all I ask from anyone who is in either in support of them (blindly or not) is not to play the disingenuous intellectually elite self absorbed card and say "people just don't get what they're about", b/c people both dumber and smarter than us get it.

Otherwise, we all know where the OWS thread is, we just don't know where their answers are.

I'm surprised no one brought up the murder of Trayvon Martin by some fuckstick Neighborhood Watch goon. Despite 911 calls with the kid begging for his life in the background, the police haven't charged the shooter. The guy had a Kel Tech gun.... and that pisses me off too.
---------------------
Cops that abuse their power should be punished to the fullest extent of the law and then put in stocks on the local square for the public to see.

You would think that in this day and age you would refrain from such activities.... since everyone has a camera phone.

But that's the bad cop mentality, next to god no one is more right than them.

All I know is millions of people talked about the millions of people world-wide who took time to voice their displeasure over what's going in a largely non-violent manner. Despite the search and destroy mission from same to point out the idiots that afflict every large gathering.

If that's not getting something done then you're missing the point and it has zero to do with me being self-absorbed or intellectually elite. Not to mention they are set to incorporate, name their nameless leaders and allocate the donations they've been receiving to beigin supporting candidates who espouse their views.

You might legitimately argue this is where it gets dangerous and can be bastardized. But at some point large, disorganized movements either go away or become organized. Because they're off the streets doesn't mean they're gone.

On the contrary, they're doing what people said they wouldn't; That being doing something, anything and not nothing.

YMMV

Nov. 18 Rep. Deutch, D-Fla., proposed a constitutional amendment that would effectively overturn Citizens United and reform our electoral system by: clarifying that private business entities are not people and are not entitled to the rights outlined in the Constitution; affirming that they can be regulated by people through the legislature; prohibiting business corporations and 501(c)(6) entities from making election contributions or expenditures in any election or ballot measure vote; and empowering the Congress and states to regulate electioneering.

The editors must admit that this proposed amendment is a tangible — though nascent — result of what the “disorganized bands really want.”
This is, of course, not to mention the increased media attention paid to income and wealth inequality and the increased attention paid to the disproportionately violent reactions on the part of some police officers.

Give corporations their separate legal status for purposes of protecting individuals owning businesses and their personal assets but not allowing those businesses to be viewed as 'people' in terms of contributions.

Haven't considered long term implications but to say there aren't people paying attention and potential changes/attention as a result is disingenuous at best and ignorant at worst.

Feh, go back and slowly read that thread and you may have a different opinion.

Simple truths I think we can apply across the board.
1.)Police brutality is unacceptable, even if I think the group protesting is retarded they must pose a public safety threat. I don't think that has been established at all.
2.)Every movement has assholes that will get painted by the opposing viewpoint as the entire movement.
3.)Peeker and I disagree on the value of the actual message versus awareness (this can obviously be clouded by political bias, though I try to think logically/mathematically).
4.)Peeker also put alot of words in my mouth in that thread. Mostly because I lack the intelligence to come up with them myself. ;-) ;)

Yep. That's pretty much my calculation as I just stated to Ms. Mutt.

I thought this was a good read about the budget/deficit debate. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/obamas-evolution-behind-the-failed-grand-bargain-on-the-debt/2012/03/15/gIQAHyyfJS_story.html

My interpretation is that the source comes from the Obama Whitehouse so take it with a grain a salt, perhaps some tequila as well. ;-)

I don't need to re-read it. I've followed it from the beginning.

There are some messages from OWS I don't agree with. But the main message of "the government doesn't work for us anymore" is spot fuckin' on. If you can bribe politicians to get your way, something is seriously wrong.

Shut up OJ. Five years in and CDT is finally making sense. Let him go and quit pissing on my parade ;-) ;)

Just sick of some of the abuses myself. I'm good with corporate restrictions on contributions, etc and minimizing their 'rights' as an entity to protecting investors and individuals who take the risk to start them. Corporations are NOT people. That goes whether it's Heinz donating to liberals or Exxon-Mobil giving to Cons.

let the people who work for the companies contribute how they want. Massive corporate contributions tip the scales too heavily.

Of course, that ain't ever gonna happen. Way too many people get wealthy off that shit on both sides of the aisle.

Scumbags like Chris Dodd, who advance the agendas of the elite for payment or the promise of a future job. That gutless snake is now the head of the fucking shithead MPAA. He's actively fighting against free speech, supporting SOPA and other moronic agents of control.

Yup it blows. Especially one man SuperPAC's. These GD contributions should be much more transparent.

Worst part is the amount of muny, not sent to the canidates but spent on their behalf.

I used 2008 cuz the job was open. The amount Obama will be able to raise in office is just insane, but to the victor...

Goldman fucking Sachs was one of his biggest donor. Those assholes have more financial blood on their hands than just about anyone.

Geithner is a pathetic Wall Street stooge who kowtows to anything those money Nazis want.

The tentacles of Goldman extend pretty far, but hey Bloomberg says they are cool!

I love St Patty's Day

Its the one day of the year 30 billion Irish get drunk and celebrate the life of a man who went to Italy to learn how to read, write, cook and build a fucking house

Yeah, you know..those time that various people will cry "Racism" at a drop of a hat. This would be one of the times where this was honestly a case of racism, from the top on down to this lowlife scumbag. How the fuck the naacp, splc and all sorts of groups of that nature aren't all over this amazes me.

Kid was buying his little brother a bag of skittle, and was crying, and begging for the guy to not shoot him, and the fucking gated community idiots stood inside and didn't do a damn thing.

and this fuckhead? Should have been told repeatidly, TO GET A LIFE. You're not De Niro in Taxi Driver, You're not the fucking cops, You're not even Paul Blart. Let the cops handle this. How the hell are morons like this given access to guns?

I'm not usually for the death penalty, and only reserve it for special cases. This? Is one of those cases.

The dude called the cops 40+ times in like 14 months, he's like a cop groupie. I used to live next to a douche like that, the cops hated him worse than I did.

Hello, 1990 flashback.

But no.

Surprised he stopped at hoodies and didn't blame shoes.

“I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies,” Rivera said on “Fox & Friends.” “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.”

Taking no chances with my clothing here in Lake County. Tossed every hoodie into the Goodwill bin where hopefully they're given to those less fortunate Latino and ......HEY!!! Wait a second!!!...

Wow, I just saw that. Impressively stupid take there by Geraldo.

I just wish the Sharpton mob and everyone else for that matter would wait to see how the investigation finishes before people go apeshit.

Sometimes in stories like this people want to get out in front in the most aggressive manner just to prove how unracist they are.

The police will sort it out.

The problem is that the police didn't sort it out.

Once you put doubt into the public you get a mob and the cops have theirs coming.

I personally would bet my life it was a profiling crime, but due process and stuff.

LeBron just took to Twitter and took the first racial/political stance I have ever seen him take (with the Heat's help) re: Geraldo.

First time I can seriously say, good looks Bron. That was some good shit.

I'm gonna look at that w/o skepticism and say, "Well done" to LBJ and the Heat.

You know, F-LeBron for about everything else, but I applaud him for that take and that stand. So, kudos to him.

What Geraldo said, without a doubt, was fucking dumb, and should be ground for an apology to the family. You know, when I went to a concert in Kent, every damn person there had some form of a hoodie. Race was not a factor, it's a style. You may as well suddenly say because he was wearing sneakers, that was the equivlant of being a "gangster".

Why are we all saying good job to "LBJ and the Heat"? Why not "Wade and the Heat"? Wade apparently already had a picture of himself in a hoodie up on his facebook page to make a statement.

EOD, it doesn't matter. It's a good gesture, and an important gesture.

I'm just curious.

Geezes christ dude, LBJ organized a team get together for a picture and sent it out to the world.

You want to nit-pick, be my guest, but as someone who follows 95% of the NBA crazed people roughly zero have given any indication any of this was Wade's idea. No. One.
