I read somewhere that some think it may have stemmed from where he grew up. He grew up in a hard core racist shit hole town. I think that may have had a lot to due with it. I believe that it why he attacked that fan at LSU because he referred to Belle by a racist name.

Im not making excuses for him, and I am not sure he even pulled that card (ie Milton Bradley), but based on things I have read, and the era and area he grew up in, I can certainly see it.

He was an Eagle Scout, in the high school Honor Society, and had a scholly to Notre Dame to play QB. Also, his fraternal twin Terry, who had the same upbringing, was one of the classiest and nicest guys to ever walk the face of the earth. Belle just had crossed wires, short temper, and the juice only fueled the hulk inside.

Also, the incident in college was a Mississippi State fan at Georgia (SEC Tournament site that year). The guy was banging a 3 foot piece of 2x4 against the outfield wall to make noise and calling Belle every racist name in the book. Belle ran out to start one of the middle innings on defense and he never slowed down. Hopped that fence in seemingly one bound, grabbed the 2x4 out of the guys hand and told him how he felt. He never laid a hand on the guy, actually. Thanks for clarifying that. I had never actually heard the details of when he ran in the stands. I knew he was an Eagle Scout, in National Honor Society and FBLA, but did not know that about his brother. Guess it makes sense that he had some crossed wires.

Yep. And Cole punked out and that goddamn rhombus was out there robbing Belle of about 10 HRs when he came up. I swear that effing wall drove him to drink. It looked pretty under the Marlboro Browns scoreboard and empty, dingy, shitty bleachers though.

God I loved that place. Metal, wood and cement. Could watch the Tribe from any seat in the house and the place was perfect for Browns games. Other than the poles, the site lines and the overflowing trough urinals. But the noise....
