Grover looks like he's lost a lot a weight, either that or Belle is so huge that he looks skinny now.

Seriously if you didn't know who those guys were you'd think Belle was the manager during those years.

This may not be that much of a stretch...

Kenny looks like he could be our starting LF on Opening Day.

At the rate we are going he may have to be. Also, I love seeing Belle back around. Fuck the haters, I still love that guy. I'm sure with age and the passing of his brother Terry last fall he probably is re-evaluating how he handles his personal relationships.

I don't care what anyone says. Those years when Belle and Co. were bludgeoning people into submission (both within rules and without) were awesome. Cleveland needed that type of guy to wake up the "sleeping giant". He might have been an "angry out of control douchebag" but he was our "angry out of control douchebag".

Yep. All true. There was a swagger about that team and the town due to that roster of guys.

Had they finished the job they'd have been Gods. As it was they came real close to that immortal status.

Belle was another guy I never had an issue with in terms of him leaving. And if he came back for a day here to honor him I think most people would be thrilled.

Belle was awesome. Both in the "on the field" sense and the "he's an Ahole off the field but I'm not responsible for his actions so damnit I'm going to look the other way until he hits more HR's" sense.

Damn straight.

Game on the the line, the guy every Tribe fan wanted in the batters box was Albert Belle.

Or allow him to put GPS on your car, or bring your boom box to the locker room, or turn up the heat in the locker room, or ask him for an interview or ask him if his bat is corked or climb through the ventelation to retrieve a corked bat for him.

As much as I loved AB, I think a lot of his rage issues stemmed from steroid use. His career ending hip injury as well.

I read somewhere that some think it may have stemmed from where he grew up. He grew up in a hard core racist shit hole town. I think that may have had a lot to due with it. I believe that it why he attacked that fan at LSU because he referred to Belle by a racist name.

Im not making excuses for him, and I am not sure he even pulled that card (ie Milton Bradley), but based on things I have read, and the era and area he grew up in, I can certainly see it.

Listened to Camino's interview including Albert. Sounds like he has a very healthy separation from the game. He just let it go. Now is house dad with 4 girls and presumably a pretty fat bank account.

Goes to one D-backs game per year. Only travels to golf. Off the radar. Respect.

Of all the Indians in the Era of Champions, he was the most important. The straw that stirred the drink.

Made roughly $98 million from baseball, not counting endorsements, autograph signings, pension, etc.

Made about $35 million of that the last three years of his contract, and never stepped foot on the field, and I think most of that time didn't even show up to the park.

He is definitely my favorite all time player. I just hate his career was shortened.

I know that's not your take, as you are just passing along what you read, but that's bullshit. Dude grew up in Shreveport and went to a predominantly black high school (Huntington). He was an Eagle Scout, in the high school Honor Society, and had a scholly to Notre Dame to play QB. Also, his fraternal twin Terry, who had the same upbringing, was one of the classiest and nicest guys to ever walk the face of the earth. Belle just had crossed wires, short temper, and the juice only fueled the hulk inside.

Also, the incident in college was a Mississippi State fan at Georgia (SEC Tournament site that year). The guy was banging a 3 foot piece of 2x4 against the outfield wall to make noise and calling Belle every racist name in the book. Belle ran out to start one of the middle innings on defense and he never slowed down. Hopped that fence in seemingly one bound, grabbed the 2x4 out of the guys hand and told him how he felt. He never laid a hand on the guy, actually. Alot of fault to go around in that incident, but I never understood how the people working that ballpark and the cops in the area could let a group of guys roll a keg out on the berm in the outfield, get shitty, and wield lumber like assholes for 5 innings.

Thanks for clarifying that. I had never actually heard the details of when he ran in the stands. I knew he was an Eagle Scout, in National Honor Society and FBLA, but did not know that about his brother. Guess it makes sense that he had some crossed wires.

Loved watching Albert hit. Loved the intensity, and how he got pissed after making an out. Loved the concentration.

That being said, the guy was one of the biggest pieces of shit that ever played the game.

His entire worth in this world was in between the lines, and as it turns out, it was an aided worth at that.

From the time he made his way to the Tribe (via getting kicked out of college) till the day his sorry ass limped off a field he was reprehensible garbage.

Yeah, it's funny he hit a drunk fan with a ball - coulda hit an innoccent person. Much like the balls he threw at an innocent photographer.

Yeah, it was so cool when he showed his muscle in the playoffs - his roid filled muscle.

Corked bat usin', steroid jammin', GPS girlfriend trackin' classless piece of shit.

But as I've said before, if you can do somethin' special with some sort of ball in this world, lotta things are forgotten or excused.

Great player, humongous asshole. And that's it.

Never went to a Browns game and sat in the end zone bleachers at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium, did ya?

It was kind of funny when he called Hannah Storm a c*** (just because she annoys me and I hate the media).

There was another time, some local place was trying to make a commercial and asked Belle to be in it, he told them to go fu** themselves. I think they ended up using Thome.

Too late, as the old stadium was torn down and replaced prior to the re-birth in 1999. Now, security lurks in every section waiting to toss people and/or pull their season tickets for acting out of line. Like standing and yelling D FENSE or some other nonsense. Apparently, loud noises bother the Steeler fans in attendence.

Bringing it back to the Tribe, the old Muni was an absolute chamber of horrors during the dismal Indians seasons. Place sat 80,000+, and when the Tribe would draw 3500 for an April game in 40 degree weather the word "cavernous" was an apt description.
I don't need to be patient, they're going to be shit forever.

Never went to a Browns game and sat in the end zone bleachers at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium, did ya?

Haha. I've never had that experience. Maybe one day...

Remember when they put the CF wall back to about 450, and built "The Trapezoid" - all for Alex Cole?

Yep. And Cole punked out and that goddamn rhombus was out there robbing Belle of about 10 HRs when he came up. I swear that effing wall drove him to drink. It looked pretty under the Marlboro Browns scoreboard and empty, dingy, shitty bleachers though.

God I loved that place. Metal, wood and cement. Could watch the Tribe from any seat in the house and the place was perfect for Browns games. Other than the poles, the site lines and the overflowing trough urinals. But the noise....
