Yep- Money ain't an issue and D'Qwell had a really good season. Guy's smart, fast, makes the plays he needs to make and captains a pretty good defense. Plenty of players to complain about. Fail to see how he's one.

Bullshit. That's a false frame around the issue and a vast oversimplification of the rushing d issues. Look, dude isn't ray Lewis, but he's fills a starting position just fine. The outside linebackers need to be replaced along with our LE, 2nd CB, and FS before any upgrades in the middle need to be considered. Letting him go would have been fucking stupid. Period the end.

Honeslty, what in th hell does it matter to you what the guy signs for? Are the Browns going to have to squeeze someone else out for that contract? No.

That deal is about what you would expect it to be if you look up avg LB salaries, considering we've only just started with the season in resignings, extensions and free agency.

You're right. But DQ gets paid more than Ray Lewis, and just about every other MLB in football. Nature of the beast, I guess. Nice player and glad he is still here, but over paying for non-playmaking LBs seems to be a trend. JB has it right, as long as it's front loaded there's really nothing more we could do.

There is no Cleveland discount right now. Teams like the Browns have to overpay to get/keep FA's.

This will be apparent if they try to pick up one of the big Free Agents in a couple weeks. Imagine what it would cost Cleveland to sign Mario Williams as opposed to - say - New England. The numbers would be staggering... likely why they'll only pick up some mid-level dudes.

And that's why I give credence to the concept of building through the draft, b/c if you're a bad team you have to build through the draft or overpay for Free Agents that cripple your cap.

Not to say don't break the bank if the right guy is out there... but the "right guy" usually doesn't make it to Free Agency.

I want them to be somewhat active in FA, but I also realize it's gonna be mainly for depth.

And the last 2 years are backloaded with much higher base salaries. It's actually a nice deal for the Browns.
