According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians have worked out Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler "several times" at their Dominican academy.
The Blue Jays worked him out on Wednesday and Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reported recently that the Yankees and Phillies have been "in hardest" on the powerful 19-year-old. It's hard to decipher which teams are really going to be willing to buck up, but Soler clearly has several different suitors. And he seems likely to score a contract in the five- to six-year range.

I don't fancy our chances with Phily and Yanks sniffing around add the length opf contract to the equation and it quickly becomes pointless me even having posted this thread.

Not to mention he's probably 24.

Would be great to bring him in the mix. Would instantly become our #2 overall prospect. Not a near-term fix by any means though, as he's a ways away from contributing to the big league club.
Working him out and real actual interest are two very different things. Just because he's worked out at the facility does not mean they're actively negotiating to sign him. I'm guessing he ends up a Cub.

If you look at that full trade, Cleveland actually came out pretty well with Smith. FG's gonna be a very expensive defensive player in the next couple of seasons, if he stays healthy.
December 11, 2008: Traded as part of a 3-team trade by the Cleveland Indians to the Seattle Mariners. The Seattle Mariners sent Sean Green, J.J. Putz and Jeremy Reed to the New York Mets. The Seattle Mariners sent Luis Valbuena to the Cleveland Indians. The New York Mets sent Mike Carp, Ezequiel Carrera, Endy Chavez, Maikel Cleto, Aaron Heilman and Jason Vargas to the Seattle Mariners. The New York Mets sent Joe Smith to the Cleveland Indians.

Gutierrez apparently added 20 pounds on the offseason (I assume muscle, not fat).

It's not going to help him lay off breaking balls out of the strike zone.
