John Lannan?

Everybody reporting on Twitter that the Nats want to move Lannan in order to fit Edwin Jackson into their rotation.

Lannan would give us a LHP for the middle of the rotation. We'd have him for two years because this was just his second year of arbitration. He's not spectacular, but he'd give us a solid change of pace with a left handed arm slot. Three years of 180+ innings. Not sure how he'd do with a move to the AL or what the cost would be to acquire him, but I think this is worth exploring.

Slowey's got another option left. Gomez/Huff/McAllister still serving as depth options.

His interleague numbers aren't great, 4-5, 78.1 IP, 4.40 ERA.

Maybe Huff can put up these numbers, but I'm not sure.

Wondering if the light came on for Huff a bit last year. Velocity better, command better for the most part. Big year for him. But whenever you think you have enough major league quality pitching in house, you should go get more.

He's a CBSSports Baseball guy.

Means we've got some kind of money left to spend. Possibly 7-8M.

Just saw a piece on him on the MLB channel. He had some issues early in the year, was sent down, and came back and performed very well (3.5 ERA) after the break. He also has one of the highest GB rates in all of baseball, so he fits the Tribe mold. He'd be another good option for that 4th-5th slot. And it probably wouldn't take that much to pry him away from the Nats. And not much $$$ either.

I've always liked Lannan and have seen him throw a bunch of times for the Nats the last three years. He doesn't have overpowering stuff and is prone to walking guys, but he's a big above average lefty that keeps you in games. The Nats were a bad fit because they have played poor infield D up the middle for him.

Makes 5 mill this year. I would be elated to see the Indians sack up and deal for him. Would give the team six arms. Ubaldo, Masterson, Tomlin, Lowe, Lannan, and Slowey. Be nice to have a lefty for the rotation as well. Teams are gonna be used to seeing all RHP from us, which I feel becomes an advantage for them in the third games of series.

This would be a disastrous move, in my opinion. On par with Jason Johnson a few years back. How is this guy any different than David Huff, except he would make 10 times as much?

Thankfully, Tribe management would never do this.

I doubt they're looking at a price as high as Brantley. They'd be happy to take a AA prospect in exchange for the salary relief. 5M is a large chunk of change when your rotation is already pretty much set.

Keep in mind that Manny Acta is familiar with Lannan. If he liked Lannan while in DC, he can go a long way in convincing Antonetti to go after him.

Acta went to bat for Austin Kearns. We'll see if he does the same for Lannan.

Can't hurt. I agree with that. Just wonder what labrum surgery on a 32 yr old shoulder does to his velocity.

Prior to that you could always at least count on 200 innings of decency from the guy.

Another ground ball guy. They've done a great job preparing for the possibility of injuries. Now they just need to get a few of these guys to overachieve.

I've got no problems with Garland in that fifth spot. Would still like a change of pace lefty, but competent major league veterans like Lowe and Garland are just fine.
