I feel for the Paterno family's loss like any other death in a family but the sad part now is how this will be spun from "Joe never got a chance to tell his story" all the way to his sons creating a picture perfect version of what dad told them of the whole mess.

Just quarantine the whole area already FFS.

"Not so fast my friend" - Lee Corso and other reports on twitter saying that Paterno is, in fact, alive.

At least as alive as he was when he shit his pants on the sideline a few years ago.

Regardless of recent events, this is still a pretty significant loss. Obviously he completely fucked up the the Sandusky thing, but he still did a lot of good in his time at state college.
Coming from a Wolverine, we're the football equivalent of a formerly abused wife of a meth addict who just remarried the safe nice guy. We're just glad we have someone who's aware that it's a rivalry and that tackling on defense is integral. Baby steps.

Yeah, think about all of the kids that DIDN'T get raped by Sansusky in the Penn State showers over the last decade. It's like, way more than did.

Nobody ever mentions them.

He's gone.

Will Jerry Sandusky be charged with the murder of Joe Pa?

Really an awful situation on all fronts.

Hope he had a big yard, cause they are going to have to squeeze the memorial flowers next to the "We Love you JoePa, even though you're ok with boy rape" signs.

But really, what a way for it to all end. This is the biggest fall I can recall. From King to spending the last months of your life doing nothing but thinking about that scandal. Knowing you built the University, and at the same time knowing deep down you ushered its demise.

Wow.

At least the guy was religious, so he had something to lean on.

I can report this has had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever. Food still tastes the same and everything.

It did give me a few hundred words for The Wrap though.

If you're a JoePa apologist and one who doesn't believe that 'all that good' can't be undone by 25 years of ignoring child molestation, well, you might wanna join the majority of the world and not read the column.

I hope there's a special place in hell for a guy who had the power to stop however many kids came after the one Joe first knew about and didn't stop it.

He didn't commit the crime but his was a despicable, 25 year act of omission.

He built buildings!!! The endowments!!!! Awesome. Lot of guys through history with the power to stop atrocities and who didn't actually rape or ruin anyone themselves also built roads and bridges.

Fuck Joe Paterno. I'm glad he died twice.

Someone lied to the Grand Jury and I want to know who it was

God to Joe, in a questionairre he mailed to him in September.

Joe, sorry to inform you that I've made the choice to not allow you to work next season. As an act of good faith, please fill out the following survey and I'll do my best to meet your needs;

Joe Paterno will not coach Penn State football in 2012 for the following reason;

A. Dead

B. Child Molestation

c. All of the above.

Thanks in advance,

Well now that Joe is dead I guarantee you he will not be the one portrayed as the liar or hider of truths. That fact alone just makes me want that whole community and the whole mess to be forced to live in some apocalyptic setting and have to wait for a Captain Walker to save them.

Now I'm off to read peeker's column.

It'll run tonight and tomorrow.

Making sure he's still dead and has yet to ascend to be seated at the right hand of the Central PA Father.

Should I give it another two days? Not sure if JoePa and Tebow will get up there the same way.

Feh....

I read it and didn't bat an eye

Maybe the disconnect I have with your unbridled hate is that in spite of being a PSU fan, I have no connections to the school and wished Joe would have retired in 95

Like I said before, I just want the whole truth

I didn't go there, none of my kids went there, none of my cousins... so none of the spite bothers me personally in the least...it does however, IMO, make it hard to have a reasonable conversation about it without going into full hyperbole...anything positive said at all seeems to be misconstrued as 'apologist'

Its long been my opinion people care too much about sports which is one of many reasons this happened...caring to much about football

...and I don't know why you'd bring up peeps from PA and forewarn them about your piece here at this site cuz, like I've been reminded by some for posting here, its called The Cleveland Fan for a reason...PA peeps are basically unwelcome

It's those people you refer to who will fill my email with hatred. The email account I use only for TCF because I ignore it until I'm in the mood to be amused.

And that's the other side of the coin, no?

Anything negative written about JoePa is 'hatred' while anything positive is 'apologist'?

Same polarity as any other subject here.

And I referenced PA, etc because twitter and Facebooking these columns like we do means the columns reach those folks.

I don't hate Paterno, FMB. That would require caring. I just think he's a cowardly old fuck who will get a pass with most because he's a pathetic (and now dead) figure. As a friend said today, nothing cleanses the public palate like death.

And I don't think that's right.

Respectfully disagree but that's cool.

Nothing to do with Ohio State. Look at my history there. It's simply a right and wrong thing IMO and probably has a lot to do with having three younger daughters. Not to mention one/any of us is probably never more than a few steps removed from abuse situations with friends and relatives, etc.

The division this is creating is amazing.

Even among the people on my facebook page. And most of them never met Joe Pa, or even like Penn St. Every comment gets a dozen responses with a 50-50 split.

4 weeks ago everyone agreed the whole place needed burned down. Now, it's time to canonize him.

So which is it?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/co ... story.html

I wanted to see where I shook out with this and after reading this directly and growing up Catholic myself, I cannot believe that Joe Pa had no idea of such a thing. That's complete bullshit and revisionist history for someone that claimed to be so tied into his faith.

This re-deification now after his death genuinely has bothered me and after examining more and reading this, I'm only more disappointed. You aren't a "great character" man just cause you don't cheat in college football or take a high paying NFL job or because you remind everyone of a grandpa they had. One is or becomes a "great character" person when in the face of adversity or turmoil you stand up for what you believe is right and damn the repercussions.

Joe Pa was able to get in the "don't know if he's guilty" card in one of his quotes... yet that uncertainty had him do exactly how much follow up??? Please. This interview was a concentrated PR stunt by the family as the window was closing. Tired of this family playing naive and downright ignorant. You want to be bigger than the institution but then hide behind it at the first sign of outlash.

And screw this "dying of a broken heart" shit that the media is spewing out, I believe Joe Pa died of shame. That shame of every time he saw shit and turned the other way, the same shame upon his firing probably realized he put football, PSU football over the safety and sanctity of youth children under his watch. To me, that's what really did him in.
Playing here is the closest thing to heaven. Really, I mean it's amazing to be in a place where the fans truly cherish their football team and stick behind them win or lose. We players love them, too. I feel a sense of accomplishment playing here, we are a special breed of football players with a great opportunity." ~ tOSU LB Brian Rolle

It worked for Michael Jackson, and he's the one who actually McCauleyed little boys.

Bantered with a guy on Twitter yesterday for 15 minutes who tried to say we're hypocrites for blasting Paterno but leaving guys like John Calipari alone. Told him last I checked, Calipari didn't harbor a child rapist. He used the theory that Calipari ruins kids' lives with his fraudulent recruiting and ruins their futures because they're ineligible and all this nonsense. They end up broke and whatever. Ask Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, and Marcus Camby how their lives are going. Then ask a Sandusky victim.

Not even comparable. Amazed me that some people can compare what Paterno allowed to happen to anything else in sport.

Paterno defenders sicken me. There's no defense for a guy who knowingly let kids get raped in his facilities for well over a decade.

This whole argument about how 99% of his life was good and it's the 1% that tarnishes him...well, it's not like he turned a blind eye to one isolated incident. It was years of apathy. And also, that 1% is pretty serious. And it makes him a piece of shit.

One less asshole in the world. As Peeker would say, pass the beer nuts.

I'd go watch Westboro Baptist Church picket the viewing and the funeral.

I'd love to see 200,000 drunken, emotionally raw football fans peacefully observe Westboro's right to show up and demonstrate.

It would be a blood bath.

Oh, Please God let this happen.

I hope the Westboro assholes are relying on the State College police to keep order and protect them. You know, the same way they protected those kids.

;-) ;)

That's about right. I've written a few hundred but if you added up all the good stuff, there might be four articles worth.

Might be.
