Well in slight defense of their past kickers Dawson has had the most practice.

No it won't.
I could take it by the bowl full and not be able to kick like that. Nothing whatsoever to do with technique and never making anything but perfect contact with the ball (other than when snappers and holders are fucking things up).
Same deal applies to kicking as applies to hitting a golf ball.
If I hit a golf ball squarely with perfect technique and swing I'm hitting it consistently farther than you are even if you're bigger and stronger.

1) You can't hit a golf ball further than me
2) Phil Dawson is amazing, but Lou Groza did it in an era that was far less kicker-friendly. He made something like 70% of his FG's while the league average was closer to 50%. Plus, he was an all-pro tackle. When Awesome Dawson goes to the Pro Bowl as a free safety, I'll say he was better than Groza. But right now, I'll agree that Phil has been amazing over the past few years, while also holding to my belief that what Groza did was more impressive, relative to the time and position.

Did you miss the 70's Steelers , or is it normal for defensive lineman to shoot at State Police helicopters.

He is the very best cold weather/bad weather kicker in this teams's history and maybe in football history.

I just put an envelope of anthrax in the mail to you.
I cleverly disguised it as a Stetson cologne ad so I'll know you'll be all excited to try it. A scratch and sniff at that.

SD:
Jim Brown was also a La crosse All American , and could have played Basketball as well .
There isn't a sport you can name he couldn't play .
Let me know when Bo faced 11 man defenses designed just to stop him , when late hits were part of the game , and a man could have his fingers stepped on and the refs were blind to it .
BTW Jim also never missed a game in his career , and damn near never missed a play.

I've watched him in the Buffalo game and the Steelers game this year. You humps can look up the accuweather data and throw out Groza takes.![]()
And;Phil Dawson is Ring of Honor- good. Cemented his status as not only the very best player since they returned but also the very best kicker in team history.
Both those are inarguably true.
And people go all Skip Bayless with HGH and Michael Stanley references.![]()
Whatever. I stand by what I said.
People will slob the knob of a QB that had four good years here but my kicker take is where they get objective.

I banned myself for repeatedly breaking the one rule for these forums. Didn't like what I'd become and really didn't see how I was going to change given how I interacted repeatedly with a handful of posters & the accrued bad blood. That's all on me. That's all I'm gonna say about that. I want no drama.

While gotribe was a bit over the top with his 70% analysis, Sweet Lou was definitely among the tops in relation to his peers at the time. While Phil has only been in the top 5 twice for season FG %, Lou the Toe was in the top 5 in 14 seasons including 5 time leading the league. You cannot compare their actual percentage as it is a different era, and kickers are getting better and better due to practice and technique.
