I think if Heacock was a motivated recruiter he'd have been asked to stay, and there were rumors years ago about him going to the NFL.

Urban had a 7 AM team meeting today. Intense as hell, all new assistants on hand. Players are meeting with their position coaches invidividually today.

Urban also banned players use of Twitter (finally) at the meeting.

We just got word of what went down in Meyer's meeting with the players today. Here are some highlights:

- As we reported earlier in today's Boarding House, TY Williams and Rod Smith were in attendance. However, Jaamal Berry was a no-show. Interestingly enough, we also now hear TY's disciplinary issues have not gone away and he could be looking at a year suspension for his most recent transgression.

- Meyer informed the players that while at ESPN he spent most of his time scouting coaches because he knew he was going to get back in the game.

- The players all met the new coaches on staff.

- Meyer was not high on the offense and said when he threw the tape on toreview and evaluate, he could not get through it because it was so bad.

- Fall quarter grades are in and it was not a strong quarter for the team - at all. Because of that, Meyer has instituted some benchmarks for academic performance that the players are expected to meet.

- He placed a ban on players use of Twitter. Today was the last day for them to Tweet.

- Meyer told the players to leave and not come back for a week. They should rest up and be ready to go on Monday.

- It was clear there's a new sherrif in town.

Yah I agree, and most of them seriously need it. Forget what ass kicking they may have gotten just going seamlessly from JT to UM, but a lot of these guys just werent there this season. Staff, Admin, Players....total mess of a season.

In that vein I think I'm actually for just going ahead and oversigning by 3 as is allowed per B1G rules. For this offseason only.

I dont think we are going to have a issue getting at least 3 quitters out of this group.

Bashing the Buckeye offense is not gratuitous or too played out. If anything, too many Buckeye fans do not fully realize to extent to which Bollman did everything but steal from Ohio State during his 11 years in Columbus.

Consider the following of the Buckeyes' outgoing OL coach: Since all of John Cooper's holdovers matriculated, Ohio State has finished in the bottom third of the NCAA in sacks allowed three times - and that's largely with mobile, athletic quarterbacks.

In that same period, three times the Buckeyes have been in the bottom third in allowing tackles for loss, the hallmark statistic for poor line play and telegraphed playcalling. Over those past seven seasons Ohio State's total offense has averaged a national ranking in the bottom half of all FBS schools despite recruiting classes that are the envy of 95% of those same programs.

Conservative offensive philosophies are predicated on prudent risk-taking and ball control, not going backwards. The single glaring deficiency throughout the gilded age of Tresselball was the offensive line, which was managed entirely by Bollman.

Since 2008 the Buckeye offense has required a quarterback with the athletic ability to bail out Bollman's line, whose depth has been as thin as its technique has been lacking in precision and discipline.

The hole that he leaves on Meyer's staff still has yet to be filled, and any metaphors about Bollman's successor having big shoes to fill do not apply here: The offensive line has been barefoot for the better part of the past decade.

Luke Fickell ($750,000), Everett Withers ($450,000), Tom Herman ($420,000), Mickey Marotti ($380,000), Ed Warriner ($350,000), Tim Hinton ($275,000), Stan Drayton ($275,000).

As they say...nice work if you can get it.

Edit: If you think $380,000 sounds high for a strength and conditioning guy, well...you're right. But Marotti is given the title of Assistant A.D. and a broad OSU sports portfolio, you'd think. The resume is impressive. He's credited among other things with some of those beastly strong Cincinnati basketball teams of the 90's.

Long time HS coach at Colerain when they were a juggernaut. He is a prototypical West Side Nati guy. Born and bred here, probably lives two blocks from where he grew up. I think Brian Kelly hired him when he came in to bolster local recruiting and he is very good at that. I would look at what he would bring to tOSU as similar to what Hinton does...great Ohio connections and recruiting, the Ohio High School coaches association would jizz in their pants over this type of hire/promotion up the latter.

JB can correct me, but I would think he would bring to this staff what Thom McDaniels would have brought to a Tressel staff (had McDaniels had the college experience).

Was going to mention that. High School coaches seem to respect and absolutely love the guy. Plus he's got that million miles an hour, relentless attitude that I think would go over big with Urban.
