i actually played in the Dominican last winter and the thing for me was the time i would have between that season and spring training and whether or not it was enough time for my body to recover and prepare for next season

As we watch Andrus push a bunt past Carpenter how much time do you guys spend on pitchers fielding practice during spring training?

Along the same lines as what Erie asked, for years here there never seemed to be much focus on holding runners, at least at the big league level. Is it a focal point coming up through the organization now and specifically in Cleveland? Can a pitcher get appreciably better controlling the running game with both his move and altering his timing to the plate?

we practice quite a lot in apring training but games and the travek take over during the season and we dont get to as much

it is definatly a focal point now and is actually a statistic that they drill into our brains during spring training and the season and it is something we take time to focus on. i believe that a pitcher can get better at controlling the running game by various looks and times and occasionally picking over to first to let that runner know i can see you and i know you are there. its when a pitcher gets lazy mentally that the runner gains the advantage and steals the bag

I was shocked at how much the Brits love their cufflinks. Cufflinks are like sex to these people. They were shocked and horrified when I told them I didn't even own a french cuffed shirt. Might have to go all Costanza on them and poke a hole in the sleeves of one with a letter opener.

If you own a cufflink website and you aren't advertising in London, you're missing an huge market.

I normally don't shake unles i feel like i can go to my strength and have the conviction that im going to get the guy out. but occassionally the catcher will put in a shake in order to play head games with the batter.
the pitcher and catcher usually have sole control over calling pitches for the game unless the manager feels that the team may be bunting or hit and run and therefore will message in to the catcher to throw a certain pitch.
i have worked with both catchers and it is hard for me to determine who i feel better with since im a late inning reliever and typically it could change from day to day so that forces me to be comfortable with both catchers.
the Detroit tigers have to be my least favorite in the division.

Makes sense. This next question may be off the wall a little but I have been in a lot of "huddles" on the mound and have had some serious talks and some talks that just make me relax. What kind works best for you and do you have any stories from college or pros of a coaches meeting that had an impact on you?

i have been a part of both that you have described. i like both to be honest. i like when the pitching coach comes out and chews me out and tells me what i need to do. i also enjoy the catcher or pitching coach coming out and telling a joke or something like that.
in college i had a catcher come out during the 7th inning when i got into alittle trouble (i was a starter) and just said "relax" and then he told me a corny joke "what did the corn say to the farmer?".. "ouch you're pulling my ear". completley off the wall during the middle of the game.
then again professionally Charles Nagy came out and asked "how you feeling?" i replied "if i'm going to get beat i'm going to go down with my best stuff" and Nagy said alright with a big smile. he later said to me that was the best mound visit that he has ever been a part.

i enjoyed my short time with Belcher and i learned quite a bit from being up the time i spent there.
it is going to be nice with Radinsky because he understands the game and what it takes as a pitcher to endure the grind of the season. it also helps that i got to work with him some in spring training but more when i was up in cleveland.
both Belcher and Radinsky were good at managing the pitching staff this year and that really boosted the staff as a whole to go out each and every day and perform.

i actually got to play catch with the guitarist Jeff Labar from cinderella last year when i was in columbus. i got to hangout with the band after their show that night. great group of guys and good music.
i haven;t had the chance to hit but i think the game would have to be in extra innings and i have thrown for 3 or more innings to get the chance to hit professionally.

i actually dont have a favorite writer. i tend to stay away from what is written about myself. i usually find out when family and friends mention it to me.
