Indians In Serious Talks With Jose Lopez

Unread postby NH Tribe Fan » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:53 pm

From MLB Trade Rumors
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/indians-in-serious-talks-with-jose-lopez.html

"In an effort to balance out their predominantly left-handed lineup, the Indians are in serious talks with infielder Jose Lopez according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. This is another indication that the team is beginning to sour on Matt LaPorta."

I guess on the cheap it can't hurt...but he doesn't seem like much of an upgrade if any...career .713 OPS vs. LHP

His OBP is pretty shocking but he did have 2 pretty good hitting seasons in Seattle and is only 28 I think now.

Another Delucci move. Crap on bread is still a crap sandwich. I would rather go w/ rookies than these loser veterans.

At best, it would be a NRI to spring training and a minor league deal. All teams in the league do this sort of thing before spring training. Nothing to get worked up about.

The best thing about Jose Lopez is you can merge either of his names with "blow."

Blowse Lopez blows.

Jose Blowpez blows.

Sadly he might be an upgrade, I wonder if he could play first and bat right handed

Holy pig shit, batman. Tribe ink J-Lo to a minor league deal with an invite.

But wait, there's more! Felix Pie has been signed, too. *high five* and *fist-explode!-peww*

I would love George Lopez on this team. I think he'll look better in an Indians uniform.

He's only 25, hits righthanded, and should be at least a 4th OF in the show. He was the #55 prospect in baseball according to BA in 2009. He's hardly set the world on fire in the majors so far, but he could end up being an everyday guy. And we flipped some of our extreme bullpen depth in the minors for him, nothing more. Solid but unspectacular move.

Since we missed out on Pujols, this guy is the next best thing.

I know most PCL parks are hitters' havens, but this kid has above average AAA numbers. Might not necessarily translate to the Show, but worth a flyer.

Gotta find lightning in a bottle somewhere. If this kid or Thomas Neal (OCab deal) make it to the Show and have any kind of impact, I'd be happy with that.

Good move. We traded some (minor league) bullpen depth for a kid that fits our needs. Can play all 3 outfield positions, and is right-handed. Brantley, Choo, Grady, and now Cunningham is a decent start to the OF.

It sucks, but I think they half-assed this Ubaldo push. I like Cunningham actually, I just think we're setting up for starting the season with the above mentioned 4 OFs, and probably a good dose of Santana at 1B. I think this $3 million they allegedly have to spend will be banked for a sunny July day. I think they're banking on full health from the non-pitchers and competing in a weak (minus Detroit and maybe KC) division. Which is possible, of course, but I'd rather come out of the gates swinging, rather than hoping to stick with Detroit until they can find a deal within their budget on the trade market mid-season. Unfortunately, if they go into the season without another fairly major upgrade in the lineup, they need almost full health from Grady and Pronk, and they also need big offensive production from Droobs, Kipnis, Choo, and Santana. Basically, no margin for error and no major health issues or they just won't be able to keep with Detroit.

Not a bad pickup. It's sad that this is the best move we've made this offseason (except Lowe...maybe!), but it's better than nothing, I suppose. Fills a definite need--right-handed outfielder--and his minor league stats aren't too shabby. May be something there worth taking a chance on. At least he's young and has some upside--way more than you can say about the usual assortment of bargain dumpster vets we usually bring in.

And with Grady part of the picture still in 2012, something tells me we'll be seeing plenty of this Cunningham kid. We'll find out soon enough if he's got anything.

Hmm... I wonder if we can get Zeke Carrerra and Trevor Crowe in here next. Swerb didn't even have to put J Judy on the marquee. The power is growing....

Crowe's already off the 40-man.

I'm pretty sure Shurmur's pre-game ritual is to drink a 40, man.
