We know this can't be right. Dolan made like a billion dollars in profit last year but refused to increase payroll.

Sounds about right. They make a profit, but it's not like they're printing money.
The revenue chart does a nice job of showing that revenue has less to do with actual success than the expectation of success. Revenue is a lagging indicator, have to invest sensibly in the product, etc.
