Have I been living under a rock on Jupiter??

Unread postby British_Pharaoh » Wed Dec 07, 2011 6:07 pm

Where did all these Miami dollars suddenly come from??

Signing Reyes
Players in the game for Pujols/Fielder, CJ Wilson, Buehrle...

I thought Loria was a cheapskate and reviled in Miami for this fact.

New stadium money, looking to make a splash, Ozzie Guillen to appeal to the latino community, expecting to draw approx 2.8million this season by their estimation.

Temporarily flush with cash, I guess.

The dollars came from the taxpayers and a broke city, which financed the new stadium.

Going entirely Latin - from changing the team name from Florida to Miami, as well as who they are targeting free agent wise, and Ozzie, is going to pay off big time.

No matter what contracts they sign this year, they'll have them paid for quickly. Season tickets are flying, and, as mentioned above, they raked the city over the coals on that deal.

Would love to get a REAL look at their profit margins over the next 5 years.

Which now that they didn't get Pujols I'm not sure they will be as flushed as they think/thought they will long term. If they were really hoping to pull huge sustainable numbers in the Latin community they wont do it with just Reyes, especially if the guy doesn't stay on the field. They wont pull in those numbers with Mark Buerhle and god forbid if they start out slow, at least having Pujols they could draw fans at a higher rate if they started losing right out the gate since he would be such a huge draw.

Plus if you cant sustain excitement early, The Dolphins :dingle: , Heat :fu: , and first place Panthers will all be drawing money from them in the waning excitement about the Marlins.

Also, he's been getting plenty of $$ in revenue sharing without bothering to re-invest it in payroll. Like Lead said, I'd love a real look at the books for some of these franchises. He'll probably have to blow it up in a few years, but should be able to buy a run at a title before then.

You aren't understanding the real numbers - nor the Marlins.

They have significant season ticket numbers already in the bag.

They ripped off the taxpayers and a dim city leadership. (Google the articles on how they didn't even think of the taxes they'd have to pay when they rented the parking spaces to the Marlins, for example)

They are already very Latin in the changing of the name, the manager and a big Latin free agent land already. Pujols woulda been great - he wouldn't of made them more Miami friendly, cause he'd a replaced a Miami guy.

And lastly concerning their money numbers. Not a stupid organization in this regard. They no very well that they will make the money they give Pujols or anyone else in these first few years. End of story. If the players fizzle out toward the end of the contract - they got it paid for early. And if they keep producing - just more gravy.

When it comes to baseball finances, the Florida Marlins know how to make a profit.
They aren't doing anything this year that will change that.

Do they plan on obtaining a boatload of free agents?

Yup, the SEC is investigating into that bullshit stadium deal. taxpayers got fucked, but hey, new stadium for another rich guy. I'd like to think something would happen to somebody involved in that scam but I'm not holding my breath.

Taxpayers get fucked in every stadium deal.

Take a simple 101 Urban Policy course.

It's the biggest sham going.

And Miami is rolling in it. Distracts everyone from all the unbuilt housing towers.

Not to mention the new colors.
What do you mean Akron isn't in the same market as Cleveland? We're close enough to be fucked by it's sports curse.
