Best TV for your money

Hi all. I am moving into my 1st new home today and, other than drinking mass amounts of beer in celebration, I need to upgrade my TV. I heard 1080p is the way to go, but I need your help deciding what type/brand to by. LED? LCD? Plasma? I know a ton about computers but nothing about TVs. Send me your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I can't advise you on brands as much. I'm happy with my Samsung. The Quad LED TVs from Sharp look good, but I'm not sure how important that 4th color is.

My advice is go with the LED. Thinner and lighter than LCD. Not a huge cost difference I don't think. Wait a while on the 3D tvs. Don't know much about plasma.

Don't over spend for HDMI cables. Everything I've read says that the cheap cables are every bit as good as the expensive cables. You can get them cheap at BJs or online.

I love, love my Sony Bravia LED. I did a ton of shopping around, and a lot of research before finally buying. Consumer reports and the techie sites rated it very high, and actually ended up getting the best price at Sears of all places. Great TV, great features with the wireless internet adapter built in for streaming etc. Highly reccomended.

I think we've reached the point with these TVs where you can't go wrong if you're going 1080, whether LED, LCD & plasma.

Mo is correct about the cables, I got some for under 8 bucks, all fine. Be aware that the stores have the TV settings (contrast & brightness) set pretty high to catch your eye when looking to buy. Change them when you get home, it helps run the TV at a cooler temp and gives you a truer idea of the picture. IMO you should change the settings at the store when purchasing to know what you're getting before hand.

Also think about the distance that most viewers will be from the TV when considering size, you'll probably go bigger once you think about that.

I've got a Vizio and a Toshiba, both are great so far.

Depending on your room setup, viewing the TV from the side can be an issue with the Vizios.

Samsung 6000 55" LED HDTV is at an incredible price right now at hhgregg at $1099. The 60" model is going for $1499. I believe this model is highly rated.

I love, love my Sony Bravia LED.

but for the sake of the topic at hand (Best TV for your money), Swerb is probably on track. You can pick up a Vizio for alot cheaper and you won't see a huge difference in quality. You also won't have higher end tv's next to yours in your house like you would at a store, so there will be no basis of comparison day to day.

Samsung, Smart LED 46" 1080 (120hz IIRC).

HHGregg sells it for 1400-1500? Best Buy is also $1400. Good deals at that price? IMO no, but what about in the $900 range?

Does Smart = 3D or vice versa?

Or does Smart means you can only watch Community on it?

Gotta chance to get one for under $950 by tomorrow.

Yeah I knew that much, I wasn't sure if we've reached the point where Smart TVs are standard 3d with all the bells and whistles etc.

From what I've seen the past 24hrs the $950 is decent but not great. 120hz is the downfall 240hz would be a steal.

Refresh rate is the biggest scam since they put flat panels on the front of tube television sets.
