Maybe its just me thats ignorant of this, but I didn't realize that universities sold bonds....
So while I look at the endowments of 1.5 Billion, I falsely assumed that meant PSU was not in debt. In actuality, they are a bit over 1 Billion in debt.
Just a little extra info....

All colleges and universities bond to build; public & private. Almost none build without. It's SOP to bond, build, and then try to fundraie to help pay it down. State Penn's are gubmint secured bonds. This is no biggie.

Yah, I get that now. I hadn't given it much thought, just always see the massive Endowments and assumed these universities were not in debt.
