Not too early to start the thread, I guess...

What do you guys think? I can see several ways for the Buckeyes to win the game, but ...gun to my head...I can't really see picking them to win it. My preview says 23-19 Badgers. I loved Tony Gerdeman's line in his college football picks column this week, though...

I think tOSU is going to use their sneak up on them passing game (think Oregon bowl game). If Wisconsin is ready for it, heaven help us. If they are not, tOSU builds an early lead and tries to do better than @ Nebraska to hold on.

There is the bonus that Russell Wilson has historically started sucking around this time of year.

Head - 34-13 Nebraska
Heart - 24-23 tOSU

I think the Nebraska game is a great comparison. I think tOSU will come out with a good (and effective) offensive game plan and a surprisingly effective gameplan and jumps out to a decent lead. The entire game we will feel uncomfortable, waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it does with about 6 minutes left in the game when WI takes the lead, quiets the crowd and wins the game. Wisco 31-tOSU 27 (halftime score 20-10).

Fickell and his staff prove to be the achilles heel of this team (more than mediocre QB play) again. Go ahead, prove me wrong.

Well, if they did, he has no one to blame but himself.

But I don't think Fickell is a bad coach. I don't even think he's a bad head coach. I just think he's a guy who isn't redy tonbe the head coach of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Bollman is a guy who for years was LT. Weinstein. He had no responsibilities here whatsoever. Now he's actually expected to contribute.

Feh. What is it with his footwork on the delay gives to the tailback? Is that by design, or is my TV signal jumpy, or does it look like he's turning the wrong way?

Those plays seem to take about 8 seconds to develop.

Slow developing plays is a calling card if I am not mistaken. I fondly recall Krenzel the year after the title would always take his 5-step drop facing his blind-side, and have to do a 180 to set up to throw.

Wiscy uses some slow developing running plays in the past. The thing is, does OSU recognize Braxton is actually throwing ok today and make some halftime adjustments? We shall see.

So here is the quick and dirty postgame wrap.

DLine played like men. Wisco had nothing on the ground all night.
LB's played pretty well in general.
DBs almost gave the game away. Bryant jumping that route for an INT in the first qtr was boneheaded. Coverage broke down 2X for deep passes in the last 5 minutes. Individual skills look good in general (except Howard), but they just cannot play within a scheme.

Herron is so much better than Hall that it isn't funny. Miller did well, but his drop is jacked as previously discussed. The OC still has not figured out how to use a young, running QB to effect. Sprint outs, bootlegs, screens, slants... what are those things? I see everyone else use them.

What a game last night. I'm sure I'm not alone, but even with 5 minutes left up by 12 I was far from comfortable. With good reason apparently. Wisconsins only mistake was that they scored too fast...twice. Good strategy by Fickell there.

I have 2 questions:

1. Can someone explain the end of game defensive lapses? It's becoming a trend. That trend blows.

2. Maybe I'm crazy, but does it seem to anyone else that whoever is carrying the ball for tOSU tends to leave yards on the field? It isn't one specific person either. They miss a cut that might have gotten them 2-5 more yards. Or they slow down and stutter step looking for daylight that never appears. If they would have just put their head down they would have gone for a few more. Just get the yards that are there, dudes. Or maybe tOSU is no different than everyone else in that regard.

Simon is a tough one to project as a pro. He is the leanest 275 you will ever see, but I am not sure that he can actually put on any more good weight. 6'3" 275 is a weird size in the NFL too big for OLB in a 3-4, bit on the small side for a DE in a 4-3. He is a man without a position.

His size speed combo reminds me a lot of Vern Gholston with one distinct difference. Simon is a football player at his core. He is such a worker that he will succeed. Problem is that I just don't know where and it could cost him in the draft. Luckily he still has next year to help figure it out. He will be back, that is the best part!

My voice is still gone from last night. Had great seats in the first row of C-Deck. A couple of things:

1. I can't believe we fucking played that well to win the game
2. I can't believe we allowed 15 points in 3 min in the 4th quarter
3. I can't believe that Braxton and I were the only ones in the stadium to see Smith that wide open in the end zone.

We have a shot, as long as the banhammer doesn't come down on us. The next 4 games are very winnable... this team will be 7-3 going into Penn State/Michigan. I had this team being 9-3 or 8-4 at the start of the season, and now 9-3 is very attainable.
