Ron Washington was sorely outmanaged last night, pinch hitting 2 stiffs in the 7th inning, one who hadn't played since mid-September when he had Torrealba on the bench.

Since when did Nick Punto earn so much respect as the Rangers unintentionally walked him to get to Allen Craig who is a great clutch hitter with runners on base? C.J. Wilson is line to earn over $100 million as a free agent and is being courted by all the top teams, but he pitched around Nick 'freaking' Punto.

The pinch hitting moves were questionable. On the IBB to Punto, that was a tough call. Doing it essentially forced Carp out of the game. And as good as the Cards pen has been, man has it been worked a lot.

Clearly though, LaRussa outmanaged Washington to take the vital first game 3-2. Was a good game.

I think forcing Carpenter out is the right move in most cases, but I would take my chances against Punto as opposed to Craig who is hitting at a 320 clip with runners in scoring position. I agree it was a great game. Cruz just missed putting the barrel of his bat on the Motte fastball to end the game.

Any reason why Buck and McCarver didn't say anything about Hamilton's discomfort at the plate in the 8th inning? It was obvious to anyone watching the game.
