Nebraska vs. tOSU

Unread postby furls » Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:01 pm

Well, here is the week that we have all come to dread. This is the beginning of the schedule's murderer's row.

Here is what we know. Jim Bollman sucks and is in way over his head. We also now know that JT was the entire offensive coaching staff. Bollman did a below average job developing OL, Siciliano was Tressel's coffee boy and Drayton just wasn't there long enough to know what he did.

The team is horrifically fragmented. The defense staff (Vrabel) is attacking the offensive staff and is rumored to have thrown the play book at Jim Bollman in a meeting this week commenting that it was "SHIT." The team is fragmented, although not against each other (Simon is not pissed at Brewster) the offense is outwardly showing contempt for the offensive staff. You can see it in the twitter feeds and post game interviews (Boren made a comment that, "You can't expect to throw the ball well when you don't even practice it.") You can see confirmation of the state of the team in Fickell's PC this week in which he said, "most important thing for this team is to stick together." What he is telling you is that either they are are not or will not be in the very near future.

Here is what I expect. I expect Bollman to change things up a lot, he has too. I have never heard an OC get called out so badly nationally. I expect him to implement it in true Bollman fashion (very predictably). Lots of screen's on first down (because that is what he should have done last week) more running off tackle because that is what he should have done last week as well. I expect NE to be expecting it.

I expect the OL to put out a pride induced excellent performance. Nebraska has a great DL, so an excellent performance means basically breaking even at the LOS.

Nebraska's offense is every bit as predictable (and bad) as tOSU's, so I expect to see the OSU defense to more or less shut down the Husker's O.... except this is the poorest tackling OSU team that I have ever seen and I expect that to be the difference.

I think the battle of the big plays goes to NE and ultimately decides this "defensive struggle" between two struggling offenses. Nebraska wins 17-7. Go ahead tOSU prove me wrong.

I'm hoping Vrabel throws Bollman's playbook at him again each week until it isn't shit.

Opening up the playbook, at least from a passing standpoint, ain't necessarily. Get the kid outside with one vertical read, a TE/RB/WR short and one deep. Run if nothing there.

I call this the 'Denard Theory' which hurts to hint at as improvement for OSU.

He's getting the shit kicked out of him and the confidence is shaken. Quit fucking making it harder on him and make it easier til he's gotten some time under his belt.

YMMV

Bullsheeiiiit.

This is how you beat opposing Ds with a frosh QB and a bad OLine.

1st down) Run up middle, preferably right into a blitz.

2nd down) Same as 1st down, or try ridiculous sweep play for -2 yards to throw the defense off of your trail.

3) This down is key, because if you do not convert you must give the ball back to the opposing team. The best play selection is obviously a pass play that takes a sundial to time.... or you can throw the ball 2 yards, this is also very acceptable and likley to succeed. OH! and make sure the OLine blocks like Hellen Keller on ice.

4th down) Punt the ball for 31 yards, off the side of your foot is the proper technique.

I don't think it will be that ugly (scorewise). I just think the football will be ugly. Unfortunately, I have duty today, so I will be watching this game sober as a judge :(

Starting sharp with the false start penalty and the predictable run to A Gap.

1st and 15, best we can come up with is the same running play we just ran (just to the right side)?

Aweaome. How perfect is it for Fickell's team to start the effing game with a delay call. They had 7 days to get to the LoS.

Good decision by Miller. Internal clocking kicking in. he just needs to stop taking on those tackles. Tough kid though.

That 3 points is on Howard. The kick coverage was lousy, but the D was good.

I think Nebraska may actually be more one dimensional and offensively inept that tOSU.

How the hell do you become a major D1 quarterback at a storied program with Martinez' arm action? I realize TP's delivery was rough too but at least he was a huge guy. I just think with all the specialty training these kids go through with all their personal trainers and such at 14 that most D1 kids could have a reasonable delivery.
