Screw it, gave the afternoon show a shot.

Rizzo, Burge and who-ever else they had seemed to work well as a combination. Topics were decent, and they allowed the callers to talk. Sounded very fan-esque. I cringed however when they suggested doing "bump and run" for the final hour.

if knr was smart, they'd try to stick to this formula, and keep with it. doubt it though, they'll force the usual brand of retreads and toolbags.

apparently bruce hooley is a pos from what I'm reading, and per what my buddy who goes to TOSU told me.

Hooley's two radio shows that followed the announcement were hot, as he ripped into Tressel and the university with little restraint for lying, cheating and generally devaluing his diploma.(The podcasts of those two shows were not posted on The Fan website.)

As someone who listens to 97.1 The Fan here in CLB, I can attest to Hooley's nature. He loves to play the heel. He's had numerous heated on air debates, mainly with Chris Spielman and Craig Krenzel. He's a negative guy, he complained when they won, he complained when they lost, he complained when they didn't even play. If you like to hear a miserable dude talk sports, he's your man. And don't dare call up and have a contrary opinion, because he will basically call you stupid and hang up on you before you get the chance to retort.

I will say it was really shitty for people to throw his car accident in his face, there no need for it and it was way over the line.

Caught the afternoon show with just Rizz and couple lesser knowns aforementioned. Was refreshing to hear Rizz take calls, not have those callers interrupted and hear some genuine Cleveland sports talk.

Got me thinking afterward that I simply cannot believe that KNR actually employs a Steelers fan and that same person has the audacity to talk Cleveland Browns football to the listener base. I simply cannot get over that fact, it's ridiculous to even think about. The quivalent of a Michigan guy on a Columbus radio station would NEVER happen. Why KNR thinks it is even remotely logical is absurd.

Rizz is popular, but I think Booms is everything I thought Rizzo would be on KNR.

I'm trying to remember what his show was like on WHK.

With the right partner he could be goot at being the cut up, but with the antagonists he's with, he's just a role player.

I don't understand the way knr is going about itself in this regard.

You've got a rival station across the way who's now posing a threat, and running the station a sports talk station is supposed to be run.

Yet you go back to putting more negativity on the air, and ignoring the costumers.

Going after the Skip Bayless/Mark May/Goldhammer model is flawed and foolish. It's not the old howard stern "I want to tune in and hear what he says next" motto. If you're given the other option where someone knows his stuff, doesn't talk down to the listener and can carry on an entertaining show I believe that will win out everytime.

May I ask, as I was not alive during his time on the air, how did pete franklin handle things compared to the way the crew at knr did?

What a joke, X's and O's was one of the best shows they had on that station. The banter was good and the takes were from a different perspective and actually somewhat insightful.

On the eve of what was supposed to be a “major announcement” regarding a scheduling overhaul for Good Karma sports WKNR/850 “ESPN 850″, that station has lost one of its star players.

LeCharles Bentley abruptly resigned from WKNR Thursday night… just as “Xs and Os with the Pros,” the show he co-hosted alongside Je’Rod Cherry, was set to begin. (It was so sudden that liners featuring LeCharles’ name still played at the end of commercial breaks, but Je’Rod and show producer Emmett Golden had to conduct the show as if he never had existed on Planet Earth.)

While the normally outspoken LeCharles himself is keeping VERY quiet about this matter, we have learned the source of his dispute with the station.

Sources close to the situation are telling us that it was a dispute over pay for Golden – $8 per hour for a two-hour show – and Golden was set to be removed from “Xs and Os”, effective next week, due to pay issues.

(Note that there was no “Xs and Os” scheduled for Friday night, due to pre-existing high school football coverage.)

Objecting to how WKNR handled the situation, the former St. Ignatius and Ohio State star simply walked out – but, we hear, not before offering to cover Golden’s pay for the show.

And to prove this wasn’t a stunt, any and all mention of LeCharles has already been eliminated from WKNR’s website in yet another “Soviet-style purge.”
