Screw it, gave the afternoon show a shot.

Rizzo, Burge and who-ever else they had seemed to work well as a combination. Topics were decent, and they allowed the callers to talk. Sounded very fan-esque. I cringed however when they suggested doing "bump and run" for the final hour.

if knr was smart, they'd try to stick to this formula, and keep with it. doubt it though, they'll force the usual brand of retreads and toolbags.

Hearing from multiple sources: Bruce Hooley to team alongside Greg Brinda for WKNR PMD. Fedor, again, will be update anchor. @ohiomediawatch

I'd love to hear the first 9pm show just to hear how Reghi spins it and calls it a promotion rather than the obvious demotion.

Hooley and Brinda? Isn't the goal to actually have people tune in during drive time?

Hammer has a reduced role and Fedor going to the afternoon show? Looks like the RBS just got back a listener in Trip S

Sounds like Manny Acta switching around his lineup of AAA talent after a half dozen major leaguers are out.

Hmmm, Duncan 5th, Phelps 7th, and Crowe 8th? Or Crowe 5th, Phelps 6th, and Duncan 9th? :pb:

Too little too late. They should have made BIG changes months ago. There would be no WRKR today if they had.

apparently bruce hooley is a pos from what I'm reading, and per what my buddy who goes to TOSU told me.

Hooley's two radio shows that followed the announcement were hot, as he ripped into Tressel and the university with little restraint for lying, cheating and generally devaluing his diploma.(The podcasts of those two shows were not posted on The Fan website.)

http://www.theotherpaper.com/news/artic ... 002e0.html

it sounds like KNR really wants to take the fast lane to irrelevancy.

EDIT: Also congrats on getting the affiliate rights to buckeye football and mens bball 92.3! because TOSU sure as hell ain't going to let KNR keep them w/hooley on board.

As someone who listens to 97.1 The Fan here in CLB, I can attest to Hooley's nature. He loves to play the heel. He's had numerous heated on air debates, mainly with Chris Spielman and Craig Krenzel. He's a negative guy, he complained when they won, he complained when they lost, he complained when they didn't even play. If you like to hear a miserable dude talk sports, he's your man. And don't dare call up and have a contrary opinion, because he will basically call you stupid and hang up on you before you get the chance to retort.

I will say it was really shitty for people to throw his car accident in his face, there no need for it and it was way over the line.

As soon as the Fan steals Rizzo away, KNR is done.

So what you're saying is that he'll fit right in w/ the rest of the KNR hosts.

If this happens, do you team him up w/ Baskin and cast Phelps back to FSO?

I still want to know how/why Fox is still on the air. It's just painful to listen to him

Caught the afternoon show with just Rizz and couple lesser knowns aforementioned. Was refreshing to hear Rizz take calls, not have those callers interrupted and hear some genuine Cleveland sports talk.

Got me thinking afterward that I simply cannot believe that KNR actually employs a Steelers fan and that same person has the audacity to talk Cleveland Browns football to the listener base. I simply cannot get over that fact, it's ridiculous to even think about. The quivalent of a Michigan guy on a Columbus radio station would NEVER happen. Why KNR thinks it is even remotely logical is absurd.
Playing here is the closest thing to heaven. Really, I mean it's amazing to be in a place where the fans truly cherish their football team and stick behind them win or lose. We players love them, too. I feel a sense of accomplishment playing here, we are a special breed of football players with a great opportunity." ~ tOSU LB Brian Rolle

Rizz is popular, but I think Booms is everything I thought Rizzo would be on KNR.

I'm trying to remember what his show was like on WHK.

With the right partner he could be goot at being the cut up, but with the antagonists he's with, he's just a role player.

I don't understand the way knr is going about itself in this regard.

You've got a rival station across the way who's now posing a threat, and running the station a sports talk station is supposed to be run.

Yet you go back to putting more negativity on the air, and ignoring the costumers.

Going after the Skip Bayless/Mark May/Goldhammer model is flawed and foolish. It's not the old howard stern "I want to tune in and hear what he says next" motto. If you're given the other option where someone knows his stuff, doesn't talk down to the listener and can carry on an entertaining show I believe that will win out everytime.

May I ask, as I was not alive during his time on the air, how did pete franklin handle things compared to the way the crew at knr did?

LeCharles Bentley just got fired from 'KNR per his twitter.

perhaps there's room for him on the fan?

What a joke, X's and O's was one of the best shows they had on that station. The banter was good and the takes were from a different perspective and actually somewhat insightful.

What did they get rid of him for? I can think of 6 or 8 more desserving...

I don't know if LeChuck is interested in anything local, it sounded like he had bigger goals in mind.

LeCharles Bentley Quits WKNR

September 30, 2011 by Secondary Editorial Voice (tm) Leave a Comment

On the eve of what was supposed to be a “major announcement” regarding a scheduling overhaul for Good Karma sports WKNR/850 “ESPN 850″, that station has lost one of its star players.

LeCharles Bentley abruptly resigned from WKNR Thursday night… just as “Xs and Os with the Pros,” the show he co-hosted alongside Je’Rod Cherry, was set to begin. (It was so sudden that liners featuring LeCharles’ name still played at the end of commercial breaks, but Je’Rod and show producer Emmett Golden had to conduct the show as if he never had existed on Planet Earth.)

While the normally outspoken LeCharles himself is keeping VERY quiet about this matter, we have learned the source of his dispute with the station.

Sources close to the situation are telling us that it was a dispute over pay for Golden – $8 per hour for a two-hour show – and Golden was set to be removed from “Xs and Os”, effective next week, due to pay issues.

(Note that there was no “Xs and Os” scheduled for Friday night, due to pre-existing high school football coverage.)

Objecting to how WKNR handled the situation, the former St. Ignatius and Ohio State star simply walked out – but, we hear, not before offering to cover Golden’s pay for the show.

And to prove this wasn’t a stunt, any and all mention of LeCharles has already been eliminated from WKNR’s website in yet another “Soviet-style purge.”

We will have much more on this developing story as details warrant…

btw, all that talk about diminishing goldhammer's role on the show was just talk..

So really, they didn't change a thing, they actually were somehow able to make the station worse.

That station is dead.

It's some guy named Adam the Bull and the other is Dustin Fox.

Dustin Fox, CDT. He's a Buckeye. He's familia for you. You should be streaming his show, listening to all of his uncomfortable dead air periods of silence and still jamming the arbitron ratings for a Buckeye, no??

My favorite part of listening to Dustin Fox is the fact he sits in a booth with one other guy, and when the Bull asks a questions such as, "How many catches and yards for your Boy Robo this week?" which is clearly and soley intended for Fox, there is ten seconds of dead air and then Fox saying, "Who, me? Ummm....."

Great.

Bentley and Fox on the same radio show? That's as close as it gets to pure CDT porn, aside from nude midgets of course.

I painted my face once, in college, then I learned that i'm allergic to some random chemical in the paint. I was in Block O South for 2 seasons Soph and Jr.

I wear a jersey and hat (to cover my rapidly expanding bald spot).

That's a big bald spot and a big head if you need the jersey and the hat to cover it.

Shave the head. Concede the unwinnable battle to God, genetics and time.

Do people there really wear scarlet-colored glasses or is that just a metaphor?

I painted my face once, in college, then I learned that i'm allergic to some random chemical in the paint. I was in Block O South for 2 seasons Soph and Jr.

I wear a jersey and hat (to cover my rapidly expanding bald spot).

That's a big bald spot and a big head if you need the jersey and the hat to cover it.

Shave the head. Concede the unwinnable battle to God, genetics and time.

Do people there really wear scarlet-colored glasses or is that just a metaphor?

I shave my head and I look like a serial killer. Especially with a full beard.

And yes there are Buckeye glasses, but you have to take a test to see how objective you are before you can buy them.

Well, this is a test drive if I've ever heard one. "Let's see how you work with these guys before we start talking contract."

Announcement that LB will be joining the Animal House sometime next week. It's actually smart. Fox is a little weak, but a third guy (and I think Bentley is good) will help cover that.

So, what animal does LeCharles become?

So it's like golf where you need the lowest objectivity score to win the right to wear the glasses?

I prefer listening to him break down football teams to the network tv hacks.

I'm not a big fan of a lot of the other crap he brought onto the show. But he does a good football breakdown.

Like I said, I don't think he's long fol ocal radio. He's already been to a training workshop on being a commentator. Its just a matter of time.

What Jersey do you wear?

I have Troy Smith, Archie, and (believe it or not - it was a gift) Lydell Ross. I'm just waiting for some stud to grab up #30 so I can wear it.

When did TCF become PC?

I didn't get the memo...

There's a line dude. If you don't understand that then you're in violation of the One Rule.

If there's a question in any other forum aside from NHB as to whether something is racially insensitive then it probably is.

Stick to soccer and Blondie as Hip Hop pioneers takes.
Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

You know there's a difference in connotation and I'm not wasting time on laying it all out.
