Great first episode. A machine gun scene in the first 10 minutes. Darmody seems to have reservations about betraying Nucky. I think his mother, who is really weird, is playing both sides.

The statement about kissing his weenie struck me as odd. Particularly the passive/ aggressive way it was used to get a rise out of the wife.

I liked seeing Nucky working both sides, and Darmody trying his hand at politicking.

Awesome scene with Chalky in the jail. You just knew the blowhard bully was going to go down...but the way that it happened was perfect.

Some really well written scenes in the last ep. The jailhouse scene was unbelievably well done. And Jimmyy is becoming one of my favorite characters ever. The scene with him pitching Rothstein was great. Kid is a good actor.

Great freaking episode last night - several awesome moments, especially when Nucky lured the info out of his less refined brother and then told him to go eff himself.

And then brother taking a wrench to that dude's neck and head.

And then Darmody and half-face scalping that old guy at the end. My God.

Nucky getting in too deep with the AG and his cronies, but also potentially regaining enough political strength to strike back at Capone and Chicago. Darmody going all in on his power surge. The Commodore all vegged out and his financial backers up in arms (scapling not likely to help that). Story lines are outstanding. Season two has been really, really good so far.

I agree, this season has been fantastic. That was some really fucking graphic violence. You know Harrow has feelings for Darmody's wife, which could be interesting. Great writing, great dialogue, great actors, great show.

I find myself liking Darmody less and less as a person (How full of shit was he when talking to Harrow and his wife? I truly can't tell.), but more and more as a character.

This show needs to learn to stop trying to be Mad Men w/ the ridiculously slow set-up pacing and to play to its strengths.

Ends up coming off as a pretentious bottle of meh dialogue w a payoff every two or so weeks.

The 85 characters and the over written nature of the dialogue prevent it from doing the Mad Men thing, one day the writers will realize this.

Yeah, the 45 minutes they have put into this mind-numbingly stupid Ms. Nucky and the maids storyline has been awesome!!!

Show has its moments, just wish it would stick to what it does well and stop pretending to be something it isn't.

More focused development of the stories that don't suck dick would be a great start.

The dialogue on the whole becomes incredibly unnatural w/ the neverending jumping from one story to another, of which about two are actually good.

The show does go in a bunch of different directions and introduce a lot of characters, but for my money, they do a helluva job with it. The maid storyline ... yeah, it's lame, but they're trying to establish Mrs. Nucky's evolution from a battered wife to one that is managing a household, staff, and dealing with the Carmela Soprano guilt of being a mafia-wife. I get what they're doing there, and don't feel the criticism is valid.

To me, the story lines have been incredibly compelling in season two. I like that there's a lot going on, because all the storylines are keeping me interested, and they involve a very diverse, well casted set of characters that have been well-developed despite the fact there's a lot of them.

Plus - how often do you see one of these shows that is better in season two that season one?

Love the way this show is going.

FWIW: I also had huge issues w/ the Sopranos, which this is clearly trying to emulate (no issue there).

Also worth noting, I'm not by any stretch calling this bad or not worth watching (I quit the Killing as soon as it turned bad, FWIW), I'm just not seeing elite there.

I see above average.

I also see a lot of potential for elite. I just never seems to realize it.

Have to agree with Rich. What easily could have been the downfall of the show (way too many goddamn characters) is actually looking like a strength. They have balanced out the screen time for those 85 characters (a shocking number of whom are actually fascinating) well enough that the show entertains every week without bogging us down exclusively in Nucky the Kingpin and his gangster adventures.

Yeah, I like that there are a lot of characters and seemingly a million things going on at once. If they can let the chaos go and amplify it while keeping it interesting, there will be great potential for some huge payoffs if they are able to tie everything up.

e0y's right, this is good, not great...right now. But I feel like I can see the potential simmering just below the surface.

The scene with Richard in the woods was great. As is watching Jimmy turn into a boss.

The underpinnings of soldiers returning from war, and how they adjust, is also well written and acted.

I was just happy for e0 that the the Mrs Nucky storyline finally bore fruit for him when she boned the Irishman.

The scene where Capone and Eli peer pressured Jimmy into ordering the hit on Nucky was great. As should be the next couple episodes w Jimmy calling him out right before the attempted hit was botched by that fed that was tailing him.

And the weird sexual tension b/w Jimmy and his hot mom just gets weirder each week.

I just finally caught up on the last four episodes of this show. I am very, very, very glad we got to see that trip to NYC by that boring Irish Wench.

Gripping stuff.

And man, THOSE DREAMS THAT NUCKY HAD WERE AWESOME!!!!!!

Winter is literally remaking The Sopranos, including the shitty dreams now and the stupid character arcs no one cares about, except his Tony isn't nearly as Boss as Tony.

FYI: Winter is the show creator/lead and was a Soprano's writer. His obvious shitty attempt to recreate that show is one of the reasons it annoys me. He has such a great cast and so much to work with that he needs to forget his past and show some fucking creativity.

I knew that prick was in over his head. You rip a dangerous man off and then try to have him killed? Too bad it was his wife and her lover that paid. I enjoy seeing Eli get his too. He's such a fuckup and fake tough guy, I'm glad O'Halloran is flipping on him.

My guess is that Jimmy shoots up the H Luciano and Laskey gave him and ends up totally screwed up...

Badly enough that he ends up needing Nucky to help him, and they patch things up.

Can't see the court case being resolved in the next two weeks, though. I think that carries over to next season.

All told, it's still a solid show. Not as good as Homeland, but much better than Dexter, which totally pissed me off this week with it's Lamest "Shocking Twist" Ever. The whole Gellar isn't real bit was obvious to everyone from the second show on.

Worst episode of Bored Walk Empire (see what I did there) so far. Jimmy's wife getting offed by Evelle Snoats at the end was nice, but other than that it was all I could do to stay awake.

I'm not giving up or anything, but I've been less than thrilled lately.

Looks like we're going to get almost all of the major story lines that leak over to next year with little to no resolution.

Commodore not making it though. Victim of a bad Darmody heroin hangover.

And the whole Jimmy going into the military to cleanse the guilt of banging his mom thing .... Jesus.

Almost a lock we're gonna get one of those season finales that pisses everyone off next Sunday.

As most have said, overall, good show. Great start to season 2 that subsided.

Well..... that's not how I expected it to end. I honestly thought Nucky might have popped Eli at the end over Darmody with Owen killing Manny. The show lost a little bit of steam near the end, but the finale was excellent, no Soprano like cliff hangers. I really like both William Fortsythe and Dominic Chianese on the show. Margaret fucking Nucky over with the deed was pretty obvious, but I didn't expect her to give it to the church, I thought maybe she would keep it and split.

Erie Warrior wrote: The H angle for next season is interesting, who's the first one to get strung out?

I'm going to say Richard Harrow, he really doesn't have anywhere to go. I assume they'll give him some kind of revenge angle for Jimmy's death..... leaving some bodies in the wake, and I bet he kills Eli. Van Alden would make a interesting junkie too.

Solid season. B+

Just watched it. ...great... Is it confirmed they are doing a third season?

Never thought I would see a show better than The Wire, I was wrong.

This show puts the sopranos at a distant 4th

Best HBO dramas

Never thought I would see a show better than The Wire, I was wrong.

This show puts the sopranos at a distant 4th

Best HBO dramas
1) Boardwalk
2) The Wire
3)deadwood
4) Soprano's

Easy on the opium there, Gov.

I like Boardwalk. This season was decent. The finale was really good. I like boobs an all. But so far it he'll and gone from a show like the Wire.

Im not slamming it, but this really isn't very close.
