Other thoughts: Bauserman throws a flat deep ball. Has a good arm but needs to get some air under the football.

Agree with Urban Meyer. Miller should have gotten another series immediately for confidence purposes alone AND he needs to be part of each play call w/the other QBs. That's just wrong for him to be off anywhere else.

I agree about Dominick Clarke. Here is the question though, what does the fact that Clarke is not a starter say about OSU's secondary? Howard is amazing and Roby was good enough to be out Clarke.... Next year, Clarke gets to compete with athletic freak Doran Grant (who is behind Roby on the depth chart). OSU's secondary depth is unreal this year. Strangely, the only positions I am worried about on D are linebackers.

No injuries and the LB's are fine, couple of guys get hurt and OSU literally has walkons on the field....

Just home and read this thread...and haven't watched the TV replay yet, but a couple thoughts...I thought my seats were in C Deck, but we ended up in row 1 in 3A, right behind the alumni band. Didn't matter. We all roasted.

I thought about Furls as Bennett and Shazier were racking up sacks in the second half. What a performance overall for the OSU freshmen? Shazier, Doran Grant, Devin Smith with a TD, Spencer's amazing play...Bennett, Braxton of course. Very promising all. Throw in the redshirt freshmen..Rod Smith, TY Williams, Roby, Verlon Reed...wow

The biggest surprise of the game for me was Bauserman being good. And Stoney is an absolute weapon. TY caught the ball.

Hope Tripods feels a little better about the receiver corps after watching the second half. I did.

haven't seen the TV feed yet but it looked like Smith and Hyde ran fairly well...I thought Smith missed a lot of holes...anyone else see that? They're both tough kids...

Edit: about the heat...it was a bit disturbing because there were many older people there suffering real distress from it, (including an official). At least for a change the bleachers weren't packed like sardines because so many people were taking refuge under the grandstand.

I like their rapport with Miller and their talent level. That said, I don't understand having a conservative game plan with Bauserman and then letting Miller throw it around. Doesn't that seem backwards considering it looks like Bauserman will play more than Miller for the foreseeable future?

Don't get me wrong, I like seeing Miller throw it around. He's more polished of a thrower already than Pryor was by the end of his freshman year. But seems like it would have been beneficial to let Bauserman throw more since he's the starter.

Bauserman was a pleasant surprise. If he keeps this up he might challenge Matt McGloin for the B1G Moxie title before he's ultimately benched for the guy with athletic ability and talent. That being said, I'm comfortable that he will be able to keep things moving forward while Miller is assimilated.

I thought Miller looked good for his first action. It must be overwhelming.

I just wish he would have put on the headset on the sideline. If he did that I would know he is for real. As it turns out, it looks like he is another egocentric jerk who only cares about himself and won't go the extra mile. Damn. I had such high hopes.

Shazier and Bennett look awesome. If Shazier is not starting next year I will be shocked (or Bennett for that matter). Next year's DLine (and team) looks ridiculous.... Simon, Hankins, Bennett and (insert WDE here). This game did little to really validate OSU's team for 2011, but it did a lot to validate the recruiting class of 2011.

Joe B was 12 of 16, 3 TD's. I saw 2 nice throws to Reed...three more nice throws to Fields, his starting WR's...then 4 more and the 3 TD's to his TE. They had him throwing more than I thought they would.

It's hard to compare them anyway, when they're running from two completely different offensive sets....

I personally think Miller already throws a better ball than Bauserman and that he's much more dangerous keeping it (obviously). I'm begging to avoid a Germaine-Jackson redux.

If this was Fickell's job for the next 4 years I truly believe Miller would be handed the reins and permitted to learn on the job. But Fickell probably needs ten wins to keep the job and getting that out of a freshman QB, regardless of how talented, is a tough road.

Good God did they beat that shit to death. The two QB's that had headsets on were signaling in plays. Not sure but there may be a limit on how many headsets are available per sideline. Typical ESPN bullshit trying to create a story where there was none.

I thought Speilman and Meyer were OK. Too much explaining the obvious and lobbying for the Head Coaching job; "I'd do this. I'd do that!. Who fucking cares what you'd do Chris. I don't know if he throws it better than Bauserman right now. It's not like they were tight spirals. But, he isn't appreciably worse right now, if at all. And, I don't think there is any doubt that he can wing it better than Pryor. If nothing else, and I'm not an expert by any stretch, he looks a lot more natural and fluid. Pryor's motion always looked guakey. N ever did seem to straighten it out.

I tend to agree that Fickell needs 10 wins if he's to have any shot at retaining the position (and I'm hoping that he can do it).

And if that's the case it's exactly why he should have and should be playing Miller more, even if Bauserman has a better grasp of the offense. We are beating Akron, toledo, and probably Miami and Colorado regardless of who is under center.

I'm not so sure about the rest of the shcedule. I think a comfortable/competent Miller gives you a much better chance against MSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin than Bauserman can give you on his best day. And Miller is only going to get there with playing time IMO. He should be playing as much as possible while the outcome isn't too much in doubt from the opening snap.

And if one of these early teams beats us, well, then we were probably doomed anyway.
