Bringing the strong stuff and predicting 45-0. IJust dont see akron scoring on this osu d. If akron scores it will be st/d.

After watching Akron's offensive offense last year, I'll say 35-0.

Fickell wants to make a statement, but learning from his predecessor, won't run it up on a smaller school.

34-0 Bucks.

I think our defense comes up big but our offense takes a quarter or two to get going.

35-6 Buckeyes. Couple fumbles in OSU territory lead to Akron FGs.

Cant tell if OSU's D looks that good or if Akron's O is that inept. Appears to be a combo.

Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith are both MEN. OLine looks great (although this is Akron).

Need to see OSU try something down the field.

I kind of like the 7-0 start keeps OSU working and the first team getting quality reps.

I really want to see OSU throw down field a little more. 14-0, let's see if Joey B. can sling it. It will be crucial against the better portion of the B1G sked.

Halfway through the 2nd quarter and it sure appears Luke Fickell is dead set on continuing the conservative (some would say unimaginative) offense of Tressel. Yes, we understand you can run through Akron all day. But you might want to work on something for a tougher opponent.

Other thoughts: Bauserman throws a flat deep ball. Has a good arm but needs to get some air under the football.

Agree with Urban Meyer. Miller should have gotten another series immediately for confidence purposes alone AND he needs to be part of each play call w/the other QBs. That's just wrong for him to be off anywhere else.

I really want to see OSU throw some more intermediate/deep routes. We are going to need to more than dink and dunk against good teams later.

Meyer and Spielman are a great team too. Lots of great football talk, Urban bringing the coaching perspective is great.

Loving CJ Barnett's play so far. He is going to be a great one. Looked great last year, looks like it is continuing this year.

Agreed. Really impressed with Meyer who seems amused at times with Spielman's "Take Your Shot" approach to every play. And he doesn't seem nervous or rushed or behind the pace of the game.

But Spielman is much better today than he was years ago when he was partnered with Pam Ward.

Clarke's been impressive thus far as well. Not facing elite WRs by any means but he's been draped on his covers in the first half.

Mark May, what a dbag. Asshole.

Try to hide your OSU hate a little bit at least.

Iowa hung 27 on Tennessee Tech in the 1st half.

I agree about Dominick Clarke. Here is the question though, what does the fact that Clarke is not a starter say about OSU's secondary? Howard is amazing and Roby was good enough to be out Clarke.... Next year, Clarke gets to compete with athletic freak Doran Grant (who is behind Roby on the depth chart). OSU's secondary depth is unreal this year. Strangely, the only positions I am worried about on D are linebackers.

No injuries and the LB's are fine, couple of guys get hurt and OSU literally has walkons on the field....

When the head coach doesn't touch the offense and is pseudo hired at a point where the previous fake OC is left in charge I don't see how you can expect change.

Nothing worth even commenting on, the fate was sealed before TBLueSV left.

Today's offensive gameplan is nice to develop the OL, but we know absolutely nothing about our WR.

Nice game for Stoneburner, but we need to start throwing and spreading the ball around. WR is our biggest question mark and it remains entirely unanswered.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This 1000X^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

At some point we are going to need to throw the ball, maybe as early as next week. OSU would be best served by figuring out if that is something they can even do.

This game has devolved into a full fledged scrimmage. Can B-Miller and the OSU 3rd team offense cover? Can OSU's second/third team D hold the zips to 0? These are the questions that will be answered in the 4th.

Nice to see BM get some snaps. I like the feeling the game has when he is out there... oh yeah, he is already better at throwing the ball than TP.

multiple places have reported during fall camp that Evan Spencer has the best hands they can remember at tOSU. That play kind of validates that. Devin Smith has looked good too. OSU looking great for 2012/13/14

Just home and read this thread...and haven't watched the TV replay yet, but a couple thoughts...I thought my seats were in C Deck, but we ended up in row 1 in 3A, right behind the alumni band. Didn't matter. We all roasted.

I thought about Furls as Bennett and Shazier were racking up sacks in the second half. What a performance overall for the OSU freshmen? Shazier, Doran Grant, Devin Smith with a TD, Spencer's amazing play...Bennett, Braxton of course. Very promising all. Throw in the redshirt freshmen..Rod Smith, TY Williams, Roby, Verlon Reed...wow

The biggest surprise of the game for me was Bauserman being good. And Stoney is an absolute weapon. TY caught the ball.

Hope Tripods feels a little better about the receiver corps after watching the second half. I did.

haven't seen the TV feed yet but it looked like Smith and Hyde ran fairly well...I thought Smith missed a lot of holes...anyone else see that? They're both tough kids...

Edit: about the heat...it was a bit disturbing because there were many older people there suffering real distress from it, (including an official). At least for a change the bleachers weren't packed like sardines because so many people were taking refuge under the grandstand.

I like their rapport with Miller and their talent level. That said, I don't understand having a conservative game plan with Bauserman and then letting Miller throw it around. Doesn't that seem backwards considering it looks like Bauserman will play more than Miller for the foreseeable future?

Don't get me wrong, I like seeing Miller throw it around. He's more polished of a thrower already than Pryor was by the end of his freshman year. But seems like it would have been beneficial to let Bauserman throw more since he's the starter.

Bauserman was a pleasant surprise. If he keeps this up he might challenge Matt McGloin for the B1G Moxie title before he's ultimately benched for the guy with athletic ability and talent. That being said, I'm comfortable that he will be able to keep things moving forward while Miller is assimilated.

I thought Miller looked good for his first action. It must be overwhelming.

I just wish he would have put on the headset on the sideline. If he did that I would know he is for real. As it turns out, it looks like he is another egocentric jerk who only cares about himself and won't go the extra mile. Damn. I had such high hopes.

If only he would have put on a headset.

Oh well.

Yeah it has. The Boise-UGA game has been far more exciting, but even that one has slowed considerably.

Shazier and Bennett look awesome. If Shazier is not starting next year I will be shocked (or Bennett for that matter). Next year's DLine (and team) looks ridiculous.... Simon, Hankins, Bennett and (insert WDE here). This game did little to really validate OSU's team for 2011, but it did a lot to validate the recruiting class of 2011.

Speaking of WDE, I am getting ready to start a thread on that topic right now.

That Hankins fellow is a large American.

Someone told me Lou Holtz called Mark May an "idiot" on TV, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Joe B was 12 of 16, 3 TD's. I saw 2 nice throws to Reed...three more nice throws to Fields, his starting WR's...then 4 more and the 3 TD's to his TE. They had him throwing more than I thought they would.

It's hard to compare them anyway, when they're running from two completely different offensive sets....

...but Braxton was impressive, no?

My old man told me the same thing, but I cannot confirm it first hand.

Of course, I don't need Holtz to tell me that Fat Urkel is an idiot. But I do like having company there.

I thought Braxton looked really good. I watched the game on DVR after I got back and was really annoyed by the moronic "Oh Braxton needs to be with the other QBs and have a head set on" drivel from the announce team. I didn't realize they're all body language experts, Meyer and his constant verbal shit about how fragile a QB's psyche is as a freshman and how he needed to get back out there after one blah series.

His velocity on his throws are impressive, the TD pass he made was spectacular, small window perfect strike. He also looks like a guy that will be a nightmare to try and sack.

At halftime, they asked Holtz what he thought of the Buckeyes and he said they were right where they needed to be, and was basically complimentary. Over to Mark May who, essentially said...this is Akron...they should be up 35-0...if it wasn't for a tipped ball interception it would only be 14-0...they can't even kick a field goal...blah, blah."

Holtz then said something to the effect of "some of the people in Ohio say 'Jesus loves you', but everyone else in Ohio thinks you're an idiot"

Reece Davis goes "that's not nice...I call a 15-yard penalty on you for that", after which Holtz said what a "smart guy" May is...but the truth was out.

I barely resisted pulling the trigger on a "Mark May is a Douche" T-shirt walking down Lane Avenue yesterday.

That wasn't getting a hand behind the ball and pulling it to the body either. He caught that football with his fingers like someone tossed him an orange.

That was ridiculous.

He does need to be over there. He can learn more hearing the play, checking the defense and watching the play evolve than he can by simply watching the game with his boys.

That kid's important because Bauserman is mediocre. Anything a raw freshman can do to learn more quickly, well, he should be doing it.

No doubt this is all true. And I would like to see that Braxton is involved, even when not in the huddle.

But they beat that shit to absolute death. Then they gave it a shot of epi to the heart, revived it, and beat it to death again. Then they made sweet love with the corpse.

I'll be interested in seeing what adjustments Fickell makes between now and Miami. To an extent they can probably out-physical Miami on the OL-DL matchup but at some point the QB is going to have to make plays.

I personally think Miller already throws a better ball than Bauserman and that he's much more dangerous keeping it (obviously). I'm begging to avoid a Germaine-Jackson redux.

If this was Fickell's job for the next 4 years I truly believe Miller would be handed the reins and permitted to learn on the job. But Fickell probably needs ten wins to keep the job and getting that out of a freshman QB, regardless of how talented, is a tough road.

Good God did they beat that shit to death. The two QB's that had headsets on were signaling in plays. Not sure but there may be a limit on how many headsets are available per sideline. Typical ESPN bullshit trying to create a story where there was none.

I thought Speilman and Meyer were OK. Too much explaining the obvious and lobbying for the Head Coaching job; "I'd do this. I'd do that!. Who fucking cares what you'd do Chris. You've never been a coach so enough with game day strategy and give us some analysis on shit you know...like what a rip move is. Hahahaha.

I don't know if he throws it better than Bauserman right now. It's not like they were tight spirals. But, he isn't appreciably worse right now, if at all. And, I don't think there is any doubt that he can wing it better than Pryor. If nothing else, and I'm not an expert by any stretch, he looks a lot more natural and fluid. Pryor's motion always looked guakey. N ever did seem to straighten it out.

I tend to agree that Fickell needs 10 wins if he's to have any shot at retaining the position (and I'm hoping that he can do it).

And if that's the case it's exactly why he should have and should be playing Miller more, even if Bauserman has a better grasp of the offense. We are beating Akron, toledo, and probably Miami and Colorado regardless of who is under center.

I'm not so sure about the rest of the shcedule. I think a comfortable/competent Miller gives you a much better chance against MSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin than Bauserman can give you on his best day. And Miller is only going to get there with playing time IMO. He should be playing as much as possible while the outcome isn't too much in doubt from the opening snap.

And if one of these early teams beats us, well, then we were probably doomed anyway.
