It truly amazes me that the folks up at Ohio State don't hear the crap that comes out of Goldhammer's mouth. Blows my mind that they insist that WKNR be their Cleveland Affiliate. If I were them, I'd give them an ultimatum, either fire the guy or we're packing up and going to WTAM (assuming they don't just go to 92.3 now).

It's one thing to criticize a team for it's performance, quite another to openly admit rooting against them, and resort to name-calling the fanbase and the team.

Yeah, tOSU is gonna throw away their long standing relationship w/ the station beceause of one guy who bucks the trend. Hammer plays a role on the station and obviously he plays it well because people get all bent out of shape over him. Nevermind that the rest of the 'KNR crew sucks at the tOSU teet, make 'em lose the one guy who speaks ill of them or else. It's not like the guy is in the booth w/ Keels and Lachey. Why lose sleep over him when in 2 weeks there'll be an alternative to turn to.

Like the E-mail about Andy Baskin’s involvement with “The Fan”, one name has been peppering our inbox attached to the station’s 7 PM-midnight slot.

He’s Ken Carman, the former Clear Channel sports WARF/1350 Akron “Fox Sports 1350″ afternoon drive host who has continued his work on the broadcast team for the minor league Akron Aeros on that same station.

We haven’t confirmed his hiring yet, but if we turn on the radio to 92.3 Monday evening at 7 and don’t hear his voice, we’ll be shocked.

It's nice having local morning drive talk you can listen to. As soon as the asshole callers realize this isn't WNIR and they actually have 1970's and later equipment and can block you...

You gotta have a delay in place for idiots that call. Can be done for $2000. There is so much paranoia in radio. If stations spent half as much time working on their own format and talent as harrassing other stations and following them, both products would be better. The show sounded fine as a first effort (in a long time) by the two of them. It'll take time to get the ball rolling. Kiley and Booms are pros. We shall see about the mid day show following them. Tough sledding.

I was hoping good things for Baskin. I enjoyed his blogs, especially the one after James left. He used alot of his family memories in that blog and think that he could do the same when talking sports on the radio.

Never liked Reggie when he was on tv either. Maybe bring in someone like Reggie Langhorne who does a servicable job on Channel 19. Thought about it but not sure if someone like Hanford Dixon would work for Baskin as Top Dawg is too big a personality and would make Baskin into a 2nd banana.

The notion that ex athletes make good radio hosts is patently false. Anyone who has heard the Ripken brothers on Sirius knows this. Baskin needs a personality beside him. A livewire. Not another ex jock who is not a broadcaster. Radio succeeds or fails with personalities. Baskin is a good straight man. He needs someone who is a foil.

Just listened to quite a bit of Baskin and it was pretty good. Informative, intelligent stuff even if he lets his "guests" run the show a little too much. That's OK if you have a compelling interview like Raab going, but becomes nearly unlistenable when he defers to Manoloff from the PD.

Once he figures out how to take control of the show (and Manoloff was just running over him like he was the host), he's a good, even-handed conductor for the show. As long as he gets getting good guests/co-hosts, he'll be in good shape, but if he lets Rucker and Manoloff become more than semi-regular guests, the show's going to go off the rails into WKNR territory.

If day one is any indication, this is setting up to be a pretty contentious rivalry between KNR and 92.3. Should be fun to watch play out. One day in, 92.3 is stealing Rizzo away (and pairing him with Baskin) from potentially pounding the nails in KNR's coffin. KNR has none of the sports broadcasts and no real talent ... so they are vulnerable. They were the only game in town for the diehards, and that's the only reason they're still alive. In addition to being untalented, people are just sick of listening to Roda, Brinda, etc. And there's a million other places to listen to Mike & Mike and Rome if you really want to.

These stations run on ad money, and there's only so much of that to go around ... and 92.3 is clearly gonna be calling on KNR advertisers.

The best thing that could happen is that 'KNR sees that they've been on cruise control the past decade and the hosts start to put in some prep work for their shows seeing they finally have some competition. Can't be a bad thing to have 2 stations worth listening to. However, do I believe that Brinda, Reghi, Roda, etc would actually put work into their shows? No, too pompous and arrogant a group to believe they're not providing fans great radio.

Two. One in Clevelaand that plays the same loop of 12 70's songs, and one in Akron that plays the same loop of 12 80's songs. 60 years of rock music and they think we want to hear the same 12 songs over and over again, year after year.
