It's one thing to criticize a team for it's performance, quite another to openly admit rooting against them, and resort to name-calling the fanbase and the team.

only 2 weeks away. :dingle:

Yeah, tOSU is gonna throw away their long standing relationship w/ the station beceause of one guy who bucks the trend. Hammer plays a role on the station and obviously he plays it well because people get all bent out of shape over him. Nevermind that the rest of the 'KNR crew sucks at the tOSU teet, make 'em lose the one guy who speaks ill of them or else. It's not like the guy is in the booth w/ Keels and Lachey. Why lose sleep over him when in 2 weeks there'll be an alternative to turn to.

Like the E-mail about Andy Baskin’s involvement with “The Fan”, one name has been peppering our inbox attached to the station’s 7 PM-midnight slot.

He’s Ken Carman, the former Clear Channel sports WARF/1350 Akron “Fox Sports 1350″ afternoon drive host who has continued his work on the broadcast team for the minor league Akron Aeros on that same station.

We haven’t confirmed his hiring yet, but if we turn on the radio to 92.3 Monday evening at 7 and don’t hear his voice, we’ll be shocked.

:dingle: Yes! great hire! and could not have happened to a better guy!

Didn't Rizz shave his head for charity or something? You'd think he'd have kept going w/ the # 1 on the side rather than try growing out the bald guy swoop to cover the middle part of his head

The big fight for 1.8 audience share in Cleveland begins in 2 days. Who will win...the AM station or the the FM with its 10th call letters in 25 years? Goosebumps of anticipation.

The last song played by KRK... "Sometimes goodbye is a second chance". That relates to a lot of the talent on the station.

Kiley and Booms came out swinging, like they've been doing the show for years. They did take one shot at M&M "that show down the dial that talks about the Jets all the time".

It's nice having local morning drive talk you can listen to. As soon as the asshole callers realize this isn't WNIR and they actually have 1970's and later equipment and can block you...

So far it sounds good. :thumb up:

Their BIG VOICE guy seems to be the same guy who does/did WKNR. Just tuned into the show at 9:30ish, already sounds better then TRBS. That could be because it is good, or because I just compared the show to crap.

Chuck Booms is great. I forgot how good that guy is. On a different level from anyone KNR has ever had.

A viable Cleveland sports morning show. Amazing.

Show this morning was just riddled with crank callers though. Booms immediately called out KNR for being behind it.

Should be interesting to see how this all plays out between the two all-sports stations here in town.

You gotta have a delay in place for idiots that call. Can be done for $2000. There is so much paranoia in radio. If stations spent half as much time working on their own format and talent as harrassing other stations and following them, both products would be better. The show sounded fine as a first effort (in a long time) by the two of them. It'll take time to get the ball rolling. Kiley and Booms are pros. We shall see about the mid day show following them. Tough sledding.

Towards the end I think they were also pointing to Rover or Maxwell both of which are cheap rip-offs of cheap rip-offs of SHOCK JOCK radio.

Either way Booms has that sardonic sense of humor this towns loves.

Not bad! Am enjoying what I've heard thus far. Stay away from the schticks and we should be good.

I was hoping good things for Baskin. I enjoyed his blogs, especially the one after James left. He used alot of his family memories in that blog and think that he could do the same when talking sports on the radio.

Never liked Reggie when he was on tv either. Maybe bring in someone like Reggie Langhorne who does a servicable job on Channel 19. Thought about it but not sure if someone like Hanford Dixon would work for Baskin as Top Dawg is too big a personality and would make Baskin into a 2nd banana.

The notion that ex athletes make good radio hosts is patently false. Anyone who has heard the Ripken brothers on Sirius knows this. Baskin needs a personality beside him. A livewire. Not another ex jock who is not a broadcaster. Radio succeeds or fails with personalities. Baskin is a good straight man. He needs someone who is a foil.

Just listened to quite a bit of Baskin and it was pretty good. Informative, intelligent stuff even if he lets his "guests" run the show a little too much. That's OK if you have a compelling interview like Raab going, but becomes nearly unlistenable when he defers to Manoloff from the PD.

Once he figures out how to take control of the show (and Manoloff was just running over him like he was the host), he's a good, even-handed conductor for the show. As long as he gets getting good guests/co-hosts, he'll be in good shape, but if he lets Rucker and Manoloff become more than semi-regular guests, the show's going to go off the rails into WKNR territory.

Agree with all the above analysis on the Baskin show.

Kiley & Booms - The first time since Sindelar I've actually been compelled to listen to Cleveland sports talk radio. Immediately better than anyone KNR has ever had since Sindelar.

If day one is any indication, this is setting up to be a pretty contentious rivalry between KNR and 92.3. Should be fun to watch play out. One day in, 92.3 is stealing Rizzo away (and pairing him with Baskin) from potentially pounding the nails in KNR's coffin. KNR has none of the sports broadcasts and no real talent ... so they are vulnerable. They were the only game in town for the diehards, and that's the only reason they're still alive. In addition to being untalented, people are just sick of listening to Roda, Brinda, etc. And there's a million other places to listen to Mike & Mike and Rome if you really want to.

These stations run on ad money, and there's only so much of that to go around ... and 92.3 is clearly gonna be calling on KNR advertisers.

^ This

The best thing that could happen is that 'KNR sees that they've been on cruise control the past decade and the hosts start to put in some prep work for their shows seeing they finally have some competition. Can't be a bad thing to have 2 stations worth listening to. However, do I believe that Brinda, Reghi, Roda, etc would actually put work into their shows? No, too pompous and arrogant a group to believe they're not providing fans great radio.

This Adam the Bull clown is an embarrassment. He's yelling for no apparent reason when he talks and is clearly struggling to talk Cleveland sports topics. With such a premium time slot for this guy, they needed somebody who could speak from a Cleveland frame of mind.

Dustin Fox is a reach, too. He just seems to drop in with obvious comments and really search for ways to sound informed.

Not a fan of what I heard. I'll be interested to hear Ken Carman in the 7-11 slot though. Had a couple classes with him at Akron, well-informed, well-spoken guy. He should thrive.

Do you still have classic rock stations up there, or is it all sub-humans doing what they think is sports radio?

Pro or not, it doesn't matter. In this city, if you want to talk sports, you have to have lived it. You have to know what it's like to be a fan here. Just because this schmuck prefaced his show by talking about how he's a Bengals fan and a Cubs fan doesn't mean shit to us.

I could hear in his voice how NYC rubbed off on him. Arrogant, overbearing, and obnoxious.

I already won't listen to him, and that's their key show in their key timeslot. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Classic Rock....

I owned radio clusters in several midsized markets. Classic rock is a niche format that underperforms in revenue due to its limited appeal to female listeners. It is a strictly 35-64 male format.

In fact, I replaced a Classic Rock format in Michigan with a personality oriented Top 40 format and tripled the ratings and increased ad revenue 2000%.

Being an avid radio listener?

And I don't give a FUCK about female listeners or radio clusters.

What I said had nothing to do with ratings, it was my personal preference for good music over a genre that is 90% assholes passing their sports opinions off a facts.

So take your credentials and stick 'em right up your ass.

Ummmmmm, you got owned.

Meanwhile, this nighttime guy could talk his way out of an Iraqi prison. Just don't ask him to make an argument based in reality. So far I've heard him say don't be surprised if Notre Dame is the next big college football program to get iced because they have a lot of rich boosters who really want them to win, and Jim Tressel should coach in the MAC.

I know exactly how you feel. Just last week, the thing in the toilet tank with the floating ball attached to it broke. I figured out how to replace the whole contraption without calling my dad or flooding the basement. That thing is flushing like a bitch.

Also, I'm actually in the middle of replacing the over-the-stove microwave. Things are going pretty good. I'm taking a break now while I recharge the battery on the cordless. I'll let you know when I'm done.

Two. One in Clevelaand that plays the same loop of 12 70's songs, and one in Akron that plays the same loop of 12 80's songs. 60 years of rock music and they think we want to hear the same 12 songs over and over again, year after year.

And then bitch about the ratings...
