Detroit acquires Delmon Young from Twins

Unread postby RedDawg53 » Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:53 pm

I'm not sure where this puts Magglio, since Jackson is in CF, Boesch is in LF; and those guys are playing well. Platoon with Young in RF. DH is mostly for VMart.

As for Delmon Young. Not sure if he'll flourish for the Motor City Kitties. Or if it'll give them a big playoff push. I'm hoping it back fires on them and they pull a Leyland in September.

Word is the Tribe could had picked him up. Detroit gave up a bullpen arm I never heard of. Bad or good move for the Tribe to pass? I think he could had been better than Zek Carrera, IMO.

Delmon has (had) some power. 4 HRs compared to 0. Zeek is like another Alex Escobar, IMO, I hope I'm wrong, I been wrong a time or two on these boards ;-) ;)

Maybe a change of teams will spark him & the team, or make the team worse. Baseball is a funny game. Just look at the Pirates with the trades of Ludwick and Derrek Lee. They were in 1st, now are 10-11 GB with a 10 game losing streak. Hope then same happens to Detroit.

Well Young has just pelted a home run in his first at bat in his Detroit debut to put them 1-0 up

Cheers Minnesota

#1 pick in the 2003 draft, and been so up and down in his career. Last year, Minny doesn't make that deal with his numbers. He's a big reason they've underachieved this year as well....

I have never been able to stand the guy ever since he threw a bat at an umpire. I know that is in the past but come on, how childish can you be? His numbers are mediocre at best. We wouldn't make much noise on this team.

Plus, we already have one clubhouse cancer on this team...Santana. :dingle:

OK Minnesota have sorted their lives out now and it's 3-1 Twins.

Hmmm, think this could be a game thread for Detroit. Fine with me. Boring night as it is.

Only games I'm able to get now are Braves/Giant & Pirates/Cards. I'm watching our old friend Jake Westbrook pitch for the Cards.

Young, disappointing as he's been overall, is still a career .290 hitter and had a monster year last year (21 HR, 112 RBI, .298 avg, .826 OPS). He's battled injuries most of the first half of this season but seems healthy now. Saying he has "no pop" is pretty off base. As a right-handed stick, I'd take him over Ludwick and he apparently cost zilch.

I really wanted the Browns to nab Lee Evans, too, though, so I'm mostly just whining for the sake of it.

Carrera may well end up with the better MLB career (as Escobar set that bar quite low) but Escobar hit for a ton more power in the minors than Carrera has. Guy was twice a top 20 prospect in all of baseball.

Combination of a bad injury and simply flaming out for Escobar.

Thome just hit #600 vs the Tigers in the 7th. He had #599 the inning before. Twins on top 9-5. Congratulations Jim and thank you!

.826 OPS is not monster. He's exactly average; .750 career OPS, 100 career OPS+ and those are both with his 1 good outlier season. I actually would have taken Ludwick over Delmon Young, glad we have neither.
Fuck the Browns...

Zeke is an Alex Cole that cannot steal bases. Right now, Young>>>Zeke.

But I'll pass.
