Only Brad Penny has a worse K/9 than Pavano this year, and LaPorta has struck out twice tonight against him.

Choo's looking offspeed away and can still turn on Pavano's junk fastball inside.

It's been a struggle against the Twins this year. Their pitchers aren't that good.

Santana just launched his warm up throw to 2b into RCF. I shit you not.

I don't want to dislike the kid. But right now it's hard.

1,709 walks for Jim Thome moving him into 8th place all-time ahead of Mel Ott.

Rafael Perez getting loose.

O's just tied up the Tigers 4-4 in 5th inning at Camden Yards.

That is all.

Uh oh. Masterson needs a K here or a one hop ground ball at Asdrubal. Revere will be really tough to double up.

Gimme the K and watch for the squeeze.

Amazing, KipKid has enough maturity to think of getting the runner going home and Santana DOESN'T drop/miss-throw/eat the ball. Guess the Baseball Gods figured we had all the "Santan-antics" we can handle tonight.

I hate to hate on Masterson, because we have 1 run on 9 hits, but after the defense picks him up, he HAS to get a guy like Nishioka out. He just has to.

Gorgeous swing, perfect approach.

I almost wanted to start Brantley to force Santana to stay on the baseball. Did it on his own anyway.

Guess we're not allowed to rip on Santana anymore tonight. Does getting an RBI in cancel out the crappy throw to 2nd? Or is he just at even right now and we can continue until his next botched play?

That ball should have been caught. Another gift run.

Chris Perez absolutely cannot blow this.

And here's Hannahan for defense in the 9th. Wise move by Manny here.

Yes it was. The 2-2 change he fouled off was enormous. That pitch was 6 inches below the knees at least.

It's time for the Chris Perez experience.

Tolbert-Mauer-Morneau due up.

Kubel to hit 4th.... Thome out of the game though, so Young will hit 5th if it comes down to it.

Nice win, but it would have been nice to get one for Big Nasty. I swear it's like this lineup tries to wait to score runs until after he leaves.

My vote for player of the game: Tsuyoshi Nishioka With his "stellar" defense at SS we get the couple extra outs* that helped.

Top of the 8th in Baltimore. Tigers are up 5-4 right now, batting with one out and a runner on 1st. We NEEDED to win this game! Glad they got it done no matter what kind of circus it was at time.

EDIT* Had the word "wins" in there originally. Oh that a crappy SS had only given us a couple of "wins".

In town for a long weekend and took my son to his first Indians game last night. Great win, and it would've been devastating to waste another solid outing by Masterson with offensive futility. Nice to see Santana come through in the clutch and the bloop to fall in for LaPorta.

To be fair, it seemed like the 5th inning started at about 7:45 last night.

It was probably just a good, late-arriving walkup crowd. FWIW, we didn't get to our seats until the middle of the 2nd inning, but sometimes it takes a little extra time to get out the door with a 14 month old.

There's also a huge amount of road construction downtown - in addition to E 9th Street being blocked off for filming The Avengers (I'm on the lookout for Scar Jo in her Black Widow outfit). That's going to slow down the crowd arriving

Good points on the reasons for tardiness. Was hoping it was that and not mostly people coming down for fireworks.

Agree the first 7 innings were like shit through a goose. Then Raffy happened.

I said on twitter that if my life was only to last the duration of one more at-bat that I'd want Raffy Perez pitching to Mike Hargove.

Any idea how long East 9th will be blocked off? I drive in from Erie, and East 9th is the only way I know to get in to the Prog. I stay away from entering the back door way, too messy ;-) ;)

E. 9th is closed between Prospect and Euclid, which is past the ballpark. Depending where you park, you'll be fine. It'll just be slow through there. So get off at E. 14th and make a left on to Carnegie and find your parking that way.
