I just downloaded it and started using it. Holy crap, it's finally something as good as late-90's Napster for finding music, but way more convenient. Sound quality is pretty good as well.

it's legal and paid for, like Pandora except awesome.

It's not like Napster.

And it streams, you don't DL the stuff.

Love Spotify. 9/10 rating.

Only gripe is that I wish it had more pre-fab stations to listen to, like Slacker or Pandora. The rest of the service is tits.

I use slacker to build my Spotify playlists, FWIW.

Pandora sucks ass.

Slacker's hip hop stations are kinda crappy, I use Pandora for those. (Pre-fab positive hip hop station is basically perfect out of the box, features Lupe and Common and Jay-z, etc)

Slacker for everything else, the Alternative stations on there are perfect.

It would be sweet if you could get that random new music exposure on Spotify, or if some geek could build an api to populate your Spotify with tracks/albums of artists you like on slacker.

Yeah, the streaming is what makes it so convenient. I only brought up Napster because back before it was shut down, you could pretty much find any version of any song you wanted using it, as long as someone who had it available for sharing was online. With Spotify, I can do the same thing, except instantly and legally.

And it definitely trumps Pandora, since I can choose what I listen to. Supposedly Spotify is going to be introducing "stations" in the near future.

BTW, I should have known Lifehacker would have something to say regarding playlists/stations.

For a user like myself I cannot see stations being of much use. I can access any track I could want. The possible play lists one can build are endless. So I can't see them creating a station that could possibly compete with what I could do with my own lists.

I always suspected something like this was coming, just hard to anticipate when. This thing pretty much took all the time and energy I spent over a number of years, building my music collection, and made it moot. Next up, teleportation?

See, I hate Pandora hip-hop, as a matter of fact it is why I hate Pandora.

I can put in the most underground and dirty shit and w/in ten minutes it finds it's way back to Lil Wayne and Jay-Z.

Slacker also is meh on hip-hop, but I'm currently going through a weird Brit Alt phase and slacker crushes it.

And yeah FUDU, Spotify pretty much makes everyone's music collections useless if they can connect their comp to their speakers.

Or if they pay the ten bucks a month for download ability and phone streaming, which I am close to doing.

Been using this the last few weeks and love it. I'll definitely buy the premium service so I can stream it on my phone and listen while driving. You can find pretty much everything on there. No Beatles, but iTunes didn't have Beatles until about this time last year. Love the lists people put together. Plenty of places you can find them online and then stream them through Spotify. Finding some great stuff that way.
