At the risk of painting a big target on my back..... to defend Santana, we do have to remember that prior to this year he's never really played any 1B.

And, as much as we all like to think anyone can play the position, it's a much tougher position than we like to make out.

He hasn't caught in years, he'll never catch again.

He's walked 168 times in 558 career minor league games. Not even close to great plate discipline. Power? Career .467 slugging, never hit more than 21 HRs in a season. Hardly impressive power.

He's a 6th year pro out of college who's still in Double-A. There's a reason for that. He's not any good. He has a career .645 OPS in Triple-A. He's not a good player. He'll never amount to anything in the majors.

McBride actually caught some this year.... he's a pretty poor defender though.
